Job Description:
This role is responsible for providing formal and informal education programs for the staff of Hospice of the Central Coast with planning assistance from the management team of the department. The Unit Based Clinical Educator possesses a broad scope of knowledge and skills to facilitate improved patient outcomes by supporting staff performance in the clinical setting. The Unit Based Clinical Educator possesses the skills and knowledge to competently perform clinical care to hospice patients.
The Unit Based Clinical Educator assesses performance gaps, designs learning activities using a wide variety of evidence based instructional methods. They participate in program evaluation using identified metrics that support department and organization quality and goals. Regular chart auditing and data collection tasks are essential duties of the Unit Based Clinical Educator and support identification of learning needs.
Educator roles and responsibilities include: duties such as onboarding and orientation, competency management, design and facilitation of role development programs, and provision of education through competent learning facilitation. Success in this role requires the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members and stakeholders internal and external, with particular attention to education and support of facility staff caring for hospice patients. This role requires demonstrated knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations, and clinical practice standards governing hospice care.
In addition to education related activities and to remain current in the respective field of practice, the Unit Based Clinical Educator will perform assigned clinical and quality improvement duties per unit leadership. This will include working clinical shifts 40% of their FTE.
Experience
REQUIRED: Previous experience with the facilitation of learning, as an educator, preceptor, or similar role. At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience (within last 4 years) in alignment with clinical focus of the role. Hospice nursing experience preferred.
DESIRED: Instructional design skills; experience with the evaluation of learning.
Education
BSN required within two years of hire.
Licensure/Certifications
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.
DESIRED: Related specialty certification (e.g., NPD-BC, CNE, or national credential applicable to clinical specialty)
