Job Summary

The Mechanical Test Engineer will be located in Fremont, CA. In this position, you will report to the Design & Engineering Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team leading the mechanical design of Nextracker's horizontal tracking systems.

Here is a glimpse of what you'll do:

  • Contribute to the prototype and qualification testing of the next generations of Nextracker horizontal tracking products
  • Work with engineers on custom components to be fabricated/prototyped in-house
  • Setup and perform mechanical destructive testing
  • Setup and perform outdoor long term reliability testing

Here are some of what you'll need (required):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
  • At least 2 years of employment experience in a test lab operating test equipment with data acquisition systems
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work such as moving and lifting equipment, standing for long periods of time, etc.
  • Computer skills: knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant computer programs
  • Analytical and numerical skills: ability to perform mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in different units of measurement; ability to use concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to write, photograph, and document test information
  • Ability to use precision measuring devices like calipers
  • Fabrication experience with shop tools such as chop saw, band saw, grinders, wrenches, etc.
  • Experience with MIG welding
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects
  • Must possess solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Ability to work within a cross-functional team while maintaining self-sufficiency

Here are a few of our preferred experiences:

  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Understanding of electronic sensors such as load cells, strain gauges, displacement sensors, and hydraulic controls
  • Experience operating a forklift
  • Ability to program testing in LabView or other control programs
  • Ability to operate/program 3+2 axis CNC's, Plasma CNC and other fabrication machines
