Summary of Position
As a member of our Government Relations department, you will be joining a team that advocates on behalf of NRECA members on federal legislative and regulatory matters and in national policy forums and develops and executes advocacy campaigns that promote and advance smart energy policy. The Political Programs Assistant provides programmatic and administrative support to the Vice President, Political Programs.. They manage the day-to-day meeting and travel schedules of the Vice President. Schedules meetings with internal and external parties, drafts and proofreads correspondence, processes expense reimbursements and invoices. Under guidance, they develop content for and oversee the organic social media channels. This position requires 5 full days in office with flexibility offered at the discretion of management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages Political Programs unit operations and provides administrative support to the Vice President, including calendars, meetings, travel, correspondence, and expense processing.
- Oversees daily administrative projects for the team, including scheduling, travel arrangements, and timely expense reporting.
- Coordinates internal and external meetings, prepares agendas, and manages logistics (rooms, catering, AV).
- Drafts and edits presentations and handouts; organizes and maintains Political Programs materials.
- Develops advocacy organic social media content for Sprout Social.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 2+ years of work experience with progressive levels of responsibility.
- 1+ year of experience in government relations, public affairs or issue advocacy.
- Political campaign, Capitol Hill or grassroots experience required.
- High school diploma required. Years of experience can be substituted for college degree.
- Ability to report to the office when required.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- College degree preferred
- Experience working with social media content and social media management platforms such as Sprout Social.
Essential Physical Requirements
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
