General Summary:
This entry level position involves designing, costing, quoting, and managing projects related to factory automation. Initially, there will be a significant focus on machine frame and guarding designs comprised of RobotUnits brand aluminum extrusion products. You will work both independently and as part of a team to develop solutions, generate project documentation, and provide technical support to colleagues and customers. This includes hands-on involvement in the production process, from prototype development to final inspection.
All engineering team members may also be responsible for managing projects through the production process and taking necessary steps to maintain schedules. The project management tasks include regular updates to management or customers, daily guidance to assembly technicians, participation in the final inspection, and testing completed systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- Apply Gibson Engineering's products and technologies to automate client processes and solve their challenges
- Develop concepts, perform feasibility studies, and create proof-of-concept demonstrations.
- Prepare proposals with 2D & 3D designs for machine frames, safety guarding, automation solutions, and complete automated machine designs
- Develop, review, and maintain drawings, BOMs, project specifications, and engineering change documentation
- Participate in production floor activities, including prototype building, assembly technician instruction, and product testing and inspection.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and documentation of internal engineering and production processes.
- Communicate project status and expectations to management, sales, and clients.
- Provide technical support and training to colleagues and customers
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Knowledge of fabrication processes and design for manufacturability preferred
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude
- Ability to break down, organize, and manage complex projects
- Strong multitasking, prioritization, and time management skills
- Ability to retain technical details & excellent attention to detail
- Ability to effectively communicate with customers in person, as well as over the phone, email and video calls
- Strong computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets)
- Valid driver's license preferred
