Summary:

The primary role of the Network Technician Post Graduate position is to work directly with and under the guidance of the Network and Telecommunications Teams on various technology projects and tasks. This post graduate position will work to gain knowledge and experience in the networking, telecommunications, and general IT (Information Technology) field. This is a two (2) year position. 


Responsibilities:

* Configure and administrate routers, switches, wireless systems, and network management systems.
* Assist with infrastructure support on fiber optic lines, multiplexing, and optics.
* Assist with telecommunications services as needed including phone systems, handsets, setup of desktop phones and wiring.
* Manage wiring requests for different tribal entities, buildings, and locations as needed.
* Work with senior personnel in the planning, design, installation, monitoring and management of network communication systems.
* Assist with the recommendation, development, and documentation of appropriate department standard operating procedures for operation and maintenance of the Oneida Nation's data communications network.
* Maintain system documentation for the Oneida communications network to include system network diagrams, standards, device configurations, problem escalation routines, circuit documentation, etc.
* Implement recommended cybersecurity best practices for all networking and telecommunications software and hardware.
* Keep abreast of emerging technologies, best practices, and standards through, research, seminars/workshops/conferences, training, publications, peer groups/networking, and other agencies/related organizations.

Experience:

Nonessential:

* Familiarity with network and telecommunications technologies.

  • Hardware such as switches, wireless access points, and handsets
  • Tools such as OTDR, fiber light meter, and punch down tools.
  • Software solutions for the management, monitoring, and administration of networks, cable plant, and telecommunications systems (i.e. SolarWinds, Cisco DNA, and/or others)
  • Cabling standards for copper and fiber.

* Familiarity with Tribal operations such as gaming, health, retail, education, public safety, and/or others.

Must pass a background check to meet Employment Eligibility Requirements. If applicable, must pass a background check to meet Oneida Nation/State Compact and/or Oneida Nation Gaming Ordinance, and may be required to obtain a temporary license and/or Gaming license as a condition of employment.

Must be willing and able to obtain additional related education and training.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
