Sr Manager, Quality Assurance

Sr. Manager – QA Supplier Category Management

So we're looking to add a Senior Manager of Food Quality Assurance at our St. Louis Corporate Office to help us continue on this mission.


  • Manages suppliers to ensure products and processes meet Panera Supplier Quality Expectations, product specification, food safety, Clean Food initiatives and Current Good Manufacturing Practice on a continuous basis
  • Monitors 3rd party audit reports to ensure suppliers/products are in to compliance to GFSI standards
  • Responsible for approving and maintaining up-to-date supplier quality documentation
  • Provides technical expertise and support to new product development, on projects designed to ensure food safety, improve food quality, optimize products/processes
  • Performs periodic audits of ingredient suppliers, distributors, and warehouses
  • Supports product evaluation program for compliance to specification as well as comprehensive review of new ingredients
  • Investigates and provides follow up with suppliers and café operations for foodborne illness, foreign material incidents
  • Examines, reviews and investigates complaint data to identify root cause investigation, to facilitate continuous improvement and to reduce product complaints
  • Supports approval of new and/or alternate suppliers of food products with respect to food safety, quality attributes and product consistency
  • Supports compliance to regulatory requirements and internal policy for restaurant food safety programs
  • Provides technical expertise to café operations for compliance to food safety regulations and best practices
  • Works cross-functionally with Operations for pest control and sanitation programs
  • Assists in serving as liaison to regulatory agencies

Qualifications / Education:

  • B.S. in Food Science or related science field, required
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in food manufacturing and/or foodservice industries
  • Knowledge of food microbiology, food safety, food defense
  • Working knowledge of quality control systems and programs
  • ServSafe food safety certification (or equivalent), or the appropriate background to achieve such
  • Experienced in the latest quality systems for food manufacturing
  • Experience in a broad range of food manufacturing categories desired
  • HACCP certification, in-depth knowledge of Global Food Safety Certification standards and audit schemes
  • Experience in auditing food manufacturing facilities
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills; demonstrated problem-solver
  • Understanding of food safety regulations, laws and best practice from FDA, USDA
  • Experience in Withdrawal/Recall events
  • Ability to travel as much as 30% of the time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with associates throughout the organization
  • Efficient, self-starter with a positive attitude
  • Proficient in common office and QA software programs
  • Experience in project management with cross-functional teams
