Description

Not a remote work position.

Manages the Data Center and related mechanical devices. Manages and designs hardware deployments and cabling inside the Data Center. Documents the network and data center processes and performs related tasks. Mentors junior team members and helps increase their effectiveness and skillset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of the Data Center, including all day-to-day activities
  • Assists with data center design and architecture
  • Writes documentation and SOP for Data Center Operations
  • Brings forward opportunities for improvement and architecture changes. Ability to lead new hardware implementations and working with systems teams to determine power and cooling requirements.
  • Performs installation of network and systems equipment (rack, stack and cabling).  
  • Removing equipment when decommissioned
  • Monitor facilities for power, cooling and other capacity needs. 
  • Operating generators and switchgear under minimal or no supervision
  • Required to participate in a periodic rotating shift schedule to ensure coverage of the 24/7 operation of Data Centers.
    • Regular shifts consist of a rotation that includes weekends, evenings, overnight shifts, or holidays as required 
    • In addition, on-call rotations outside of the regular shift are required 
  • Provide feedback on and refinement of data center operational processes
  • Establishes specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements.
  • Maintains Data Center performance by performing monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting problems; escalating problems to Data Center Team Lead
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments 
  • Perform regular walkthroughs of all facilities. 
  • Documents specific duties, activities, problems solved and issues resolved
  • Performs training.
  • Attends meetings and serves on committees, as requested 
  • Performs additional duties and assignments as requested


Qualifications

MINIMUM BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree required

Experience:

  • 4-6 years of related experience 

Knowledge of: 

  • Datacenter HVAC, CRAC, cooling technologies
  • Datacenter power, UPS, generator operations, etc
  • Datacenter fire suppression systems (FM200, HFC125, etc)
  • General knowledge of datacenter design and construction
  • LAN/WAN
  • Structured Cabling
  • Ethernet and Fiber Cabling
  • Emerging Technology Trends 
  • Datacenter Best Practice and Industry Standard Methodology
  • Tools for equipment installation

Skills/Abilities:

  • Evaluate critical systems, prioritize workflow and determine solutions 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Interpret and apply laws, regulations and policies 
  • Provide technical assistance for computer problems 
  • Read and understand technical manuals 
  • Work for extended time at keyboard/terminal 
  • Maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and coworkers

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This role operates in a data center environment where potential hazards may include exposed cabling, electrical equipment, raised flooring, and trip hazards. 

The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to loud due to continuous server and cooling system operation.
