Job Summary

Responsible for the development, management, and administration of simulation resources in support of educational programs, patient care, and research at Palmetto Health. The Director is responsible for developing programs, overseeing the budget, assessing future needs, formulating policies and procedures, supervising staff, ensuring the quality of operations, promoting simulation-based training services to Palmetto Health staff, and collaborating with USC School of Medicine faculty and staff. The Director also provides comprehensive strategic and operational planning initiatives in support of the Sim COACH mobile Simulation Center. The Director will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for improvement, innovation, and research while managing the implementation of change initiatives for the integration of patient simulation technology into healthcare education within our institutions and surrounding communities. The Director provides the leadership required to ensure services are delivered within scope, timeliness, quality, and client satisfaction guidelines. Ensures the financial health of services provided through the development of appropriate organizational structure, financial reporting and accountability.

Accountabilities

  • Maintains a strong foundation of knowledge about trends in medical simulation and local demands to set the strategic direction for the center.
  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to actively market the Simulation Center's services, increase revenue year over year, and direct overall business development of the operation. 
  • Provides effective leadership by coordinating and integrating services within the department, with other departments, and with external clients.
  • Communicates the effectiveness and value of simulation activities to diverse audiences, including publications, presentations at conferences, and other means.  Acts as an ambassador for the Simulation Center in all venues.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of the services.
  • Develops and implements effective budget oversight, including processes to monitor operational and capital costs.
  • Manages department human resources by: determining qualifications, competence and performance expectations; planning, implementing and monitoring staffing plans; overseeing orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department and applying policies/procedures pertaining to human resources management.
  • Continuously assesses and improves the department's performance by designing operational processes, monitoring performance through data, analyzing the data, implementing sustainable performance improvement, and participating in multi-disciplinary inter-departmental PI activities.
  • Manages information by providing information systems and data management for department operations and performance improvement.
  • Manages the environment (of service) by developing, implementing, and monitoring processes to reduce and control environmental hazards and risks; preventing accidents and injuries and maintaining safe conditions for staff and visitors.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports. Minimum Education Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare related field or related required Minimum Experience 5+ years related experience. Management experience providing operational oversight in an education organization required; Experience providing operational oversight in a multi-disciplinary simulation center preferred Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

Valid driver's license, an acceptable three-year motor vehicle record as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart, and a certificate of auto insurance.

Other Required Experience

Organizational, financial, negotiation, and personnel management skills are essential. A working knowledge of curriculum development, adult educational theory, simulation technologies, and simulation-based learning is preferred. Possess a working knowledge of business planning, modeling, concepts and tools.  Possess a working knowledge of project management theories, principles, and best practices.
