The Powertrain Test Engineer I will support the customer in developing and executing powertrain and vehicle testing. The role will ensure testing is carried out according to approved procedures and customer requirements. The Powertrain Test Engineer I will be mentored and supported by team members on project work and customer interactions.

As a Powertrain Test Engineer I, you will:

  •  Support multiple engineering and testing projects for a variety of customers.
  • Coordinate internal support activities in both professional and shop environment departments (CAD Services, Testing, Machine Shop, Engine Build, Fabrication, Garage Services)
  • Perform engine dynamometer and vehicle-based testing as well as diagnose hardware/control issues
  • Conduct frequent analysis of collected test data from dynamometer test cells and ECU
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations for status reviews and project sign-off
  • Manage inventory of engine/vehicle components and related test hardware
  • Support component and system design activities, as needed

Minimum qualifications to be considered:

  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering
  •  Strong hands-on mechanical background
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues quickly and efficiently in a dynamic environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

A successful candidate may also have:

  • Previous SAE (Formula/Baja/Etc.) or work/internship/co-op experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to perform powertrain testing and system integration
  • Previous experience as a mechanical
  • Experience with dynamometer testing, engine control, calibration and communication tools
  • Ability to use scientific measurement equipment (transducers, strain gauges, accelerometers, 
    emission benches, etc.)
  • Good skills in reading and interpreting engineering designs or assembly manuals.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a team environment with customers, engineers, designers, lab technicians, mechanics, machinists, and engine builders
  • Knowledge and/or design experience with powertrain systems and/or base engines.
  • Ability to use testing software tools
