The Veterinary Specialist supports animal health, welfare, and milk quality programs across Schreiber Foods' dairy supply base. This role applies specialized veterinary knowledge to execute animal health initiatives, support compliance with welfare standards, and partner with producers and internal teams to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Execute animal health and welfare programs in partnership with dairy producers, veterinarians, and internal teams, supporting disease prevention, biosecurity, and treatment practices.
  • Provide technical veterinary input to milk quality initiatives, including mastitis management, somatic cell count reduction, and related improvement actions.
  • Conduct on‑farm visits and assessments to evaluate animal health, welfare, and husbandry practices against company standards and industry requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with dairy producers and their veterinary teams to support consistent execution of animal health expectations.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal partners (e.g., Quality Assurance, Procurement, Sustainability) and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Support development and delivery of training materials and education related to animal health, welfare, and best practices.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret animal health and production data to identify trends and recommend practical improvements.
  • Prepare reports and summaries on animal health, welfare performance, and milk quality indicators for internal review.
  • Stay current on advancements in veterinary medicine, dairy science, and animal welfare to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide technical support during animal health incidents or supply‑chain disruptions as directed.

What you will need to succeed

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of post‑DVM experience in dairy practice, food animal production, or a related industry role.
  • Active veterinary license in at least one relevant jurisdiction, with ability to obtain additional licensure as required.
  • Strong working knowledge of dairy cattle health, preventative medicine, welfare practices, and milk quality drivers.
  • Ability to apply data and observations to recommend practical, executable improvements.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently within defined guidelines and priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to dairy farms and company locations.
