Description: 1.0 FTE Special Education Teacher-Behavior Support Program @ Sherrod Elementary
Site specific information: Support and assist students who experience challenges with social emotional and self-regulation skills. Implementation of research-based strategies and best practices to support school wide PBIS and de-escalation strategies within a variety of inclusive settings to achieve academic growth. Work collaboratively with general education teachers and behavior techs to collect data regarding student progress and needs to include developing behavior intervention plans and escalation curves on an as needed basis. Build and put into practice the following components: social emotional learning & self-governance, points and levels, behavior contrast, P.R.O.M.P.T, physiology to learn, effective academic instruction.
Job Summary: To implement appropriate individualized education plan as defined by the IEP Team, advocate for disabled students, provide quality services to eligible individuals based on current research and technology. Assist the Student Support Services in meeting audit and compliance standards and promote positive attitudes about and toward Special Education.
Qualifications: Alaska Teaching Certificate-Type A and Bachelor's degree, with an endorsement in Special Education. Experience with trauma sensitive schools preferred.
Essential Duties
Physical Requirements: LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
