Description:  1.0 FTE Resource Specialist @ Student Support Services

Job Summary: To implement appropriate individualized education plans as developed by the Child Study Team, advocate for handicapped students, provide quality services to individuals based upon current research and technology. Assist the Exceptional Child Services Department in meeting audit and compliance standards, and promote positive attitudes about and towards Special Education.

Qualifications: Current Type A Alaska certification with endorsement in Special Education and/or Current Type C Alaska certificate with endorsement in a related service area.  5 years of successful teaching experience in special education and/or a related service area preferred.

Essential Duties 1 Support the provision of individualized services of students with disabilities 2 Collaborate with stakeholders 3 Partner with other district departments 4 Assist with compliance of federal/state/district special education guidelines and procedures 5 Assist with special education paperwork and Synergy processes 6 Serve as a resource for parents/staff/students. 7 Participate as an IEP team member when appropriate 8 Collaborate with special education teachers regarding, but not limited to: strategies, interventions, accommodations, modifications, related services, curriculum, equipment and materials 9

Support student transition from program to program (e.g. resource to BSP, MDS to Intensive Resource, etc.) and from level to level (e.g. elementary to middle, high school to postsecondary, etc.)

10 Provide information about and advocate for appropriate continuum of services and placements 11 Communicate special education staffing needs and requests 12 Assist with special education professional development activities 13

Attend professional development workshops and conferences in order to continue to share knowledge of current best practices with instructional staff.



Physical Requirements: LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligable amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
