Location: Chesapeake, VA. Indian Creek Correctional Center is a level 2 medium security prison. This facility provides specialized treatment services to individuals with substance use disorder.

 

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm OR 7:45 am – 4:45 pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break. 

 

Pay Rate: 52,000 ($25.00/hr.). Candidates with a CSAC, CADC, or equivalent certification/license are eligible for $58,000 ($27.88/hr.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Services field is required.
  • State certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in the state of Virginia or similar certification/license recognized by the Virginia Board of Professional Counselors is required within two (2) years of signing job description.  
  • Case management experience is required. 
  • Experience working in the substance abuse treatment field is preferred. 
  • Experience working within a correctional or secure environment is a plus. 
  • Experience working in Therapeutic Community model programs is a plus.

 

 

The Transition Specialist is responsible for:

  • Providing group education, release planning, case management, and re-entry preparation services to the clients who have completed the Cognitive Therapeutic Community program at Indian Creek Correctional Center and are within 90 days of their release from incarceration.
  • Arranging continuing care needs for the returning citizens to prepare them to meet their various treatment, support, and living needs once they are released from incarceration.
  • Facilitates Thinking for a Change classes, attends Re-Entry Council meetings in the Tidewater area, and sponsors outside vendors to conduct workshops and seminars for the returning citizens.
  • Working closely with Virginia Department of Corrections personnel to ensure quality services and promote a healing environment where people with substance use disorders can learn to live in recovery as returning citizens.
