We are seeking a Backend Java Support Engineer to work as part of our Life and Pension Digital Engineering Team. The post holder will investigate defects reported by clients and client programme testers to determine if the software is defective and, if so, what action should be taken.
When no issues require investigation, the post holder will be assigned engineering work to fix/develop the product.
Key Responsibilities
Triage and Investigation

- Provide status reports to Engineering and Product Managers.
- Provide feedback to the team on the issues identified in Production
- Feed into quality improvements, support the QA Team in developing new tests/approaches
- Feedback into Software Design to ensure design defects are removed in later iterations of the project.
Coding and Development
- Develop features, fix and enhancements following coding/design guidelines as a member of the team.
- Review Code to ensure others have complied with required standards.
- Prepare Hot Fixes/Adhoc releases as required
Collaboration & Communication
- Work as a member of the team; this is a key role in helping to raise awareness of potential defects and promoting a fuller understanding of the overall system, which will be using several systems of record and serving multiple country markets. This role aims to help the team code out defects and promote good quality testing to ensure defects are caught early.
- Provide a primary point of contact for stakeholders in Support and client programmes to raise defects and the status of current investigations.
Required Skills and Desirable Experience
- Strong background in software engineering with hands-on expertise in Java and Java-based frameworks (Spring, Hibernate, etc.).

- Experience developing cloud-based SaaS/PaaS Products
- Experience with other programming languages; ideally, “full stack experience”.
- Deep understanding of modern architecture paradigms (e.g., microservices, REST APIs, event-driven systems).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead across functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Life and Pension administration, asset management, or financial operations technology.
