Job Description

Global Investor and Distribution Solutions (GIDS) is the business unit offering this role. GIDS delivers global omni-channel investor servicing, including contact centre, using digital services.

Engineering Technical Assurance Lead (ETAL)

The Engineering Technical Assurance Lead plays a critical role in developing the Digital Platform.  The role combines the attributes of Product Owner, Technical Business Analyst with Agile Delivery Manager/Scrum Master.

The role reports to the Head of Backend but will actively support 2-3 teams and their Tech Leads on a day-to-day basis.

Digital comprises several lines of business, including cloud-based SaaS services.   The newly created platform group requires a multi-talented individual to support the teams as they evolve core services:

  • Identity access management
  • Digital Micro Services provides core capabilities such as audit, email/sms and document transmission
  • RBAC and Digital Control Panel

Product Owner

  • Develop the platform vision with Head of Backend and Architects, actively engage views from Head of APIs, Head of Frontend and Head of QA.  Meet with Line of Business Teams to gather requirements and issues; meet with Executive Management and Product Owners to share the vision and receive feedback.
  • Produce Platform Product Roadmap, ensuring priorities and strategies are outlined.
  • Maintain an overview of platform capabilities.

Planning

  • Working with Platform Teams/Tech Leads helps teams to plan their deliveries to meet the roadmap.   Act as the Scrum Master/Agile Delivery Manager to the Teams, ensuring backlogs are maintained.
  • An element in the role is helping to maximise throughput (i.e. rate of delivery) – this is not about working longer hours; a focus on quality, design, way of working and people skills all contribute to improved productivity.  Equally true is the principle of write once and use many.  One of Platform's core missions is to avoid Line of Business Teams writing the same software many times.
  • Engage with Release Management as necessary to ensure Platform Services are delivered in accordance with company policies.

Technical Analyst

  • Prepare stories for teams, at least at a top level, before refinement.  Produce supporting documentation such as overview diagrams, sequence diagrams or flow diagrams.  Many of these will be produced by the architects and may need to be catalogued and refined into a unified set.
  • Ensure APIs are documented; inputs/outputs, sufficient for line of business teams to be able to consume platform services.    Ideally, the “contract” will be documented in advance by the post holder or in conjunction with the architects/engineers.

Personal Skills

  • Effective communicator; experience working at all organisational levels from Executive Management through to new entrants into the IT industry in an international business
  • Experience working as/with Product Owners to create roadmaps and manage priorities
  • Experience working with Engineering Teams as an Agile Leader; e.g. Scrum Master to organise backlogs, sprints and produce team metrics
  • Experience working as a BA; preparing stories, diagrams (UML ideally), along with other supporting artefacts.
  • Experience working with APIs and Micro Services; being able to use Postman or similar to call APIs
  • Keen to learn new skills “on the job”; while knowledge sharing and help from teams will be provided, the postholder must be able to research and acquire knowledge independently
  • Demonstrable experience in building coalitions across teams/groups.

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups, to enable us to bring a diversity of perspectives to our thinking and conversation.
