Sr. Software/DevOps Engineer – Cloud Platform Experience Job Description

The Cloud Platform Experience team is responsible for developing and operating our SS&C cloud portal, which provides teams the ability to self-service infrastructure (compute, network, storage) for their application needs.  We have a variety of front-end, back-end and operational work as we strive to provide full-service ownership for our applications and services.

You will be partnering with software and operations engineers to support a modern private cloud that can handle the requirements for a global company.

This position is open to remote work from within the US.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy services supporting our enterprise cloud platform
• Mentor other software engineers around patterns and practices for highly available systems
• Integrate with CI/CD, Kubernetes, VMs, backend-services and managed-service offerings
• Build and maintain observability dashboards to monitor overall health of the ecosystem
• Build common components for reuse across the organization, maintaining documentation, demo applications and reviewing pull requests
• Work closely with our support team and user community to promote best practices for cloud adoption

Minimum Qualifications

• Engineering degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of development experience (Java, Go, Python or other languages)
• A solid foundation in object-oriented and cloud native design
• Experience in writing HTTP services in higher-level languages (e.g., Java/Spring, Go)
• Experience with relational and document databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
• Experience learning new open-source software, APIs and frameworks
• Exposure to automated testing, modern CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform
• Familiar with bash, Git, JIRA and agile methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, etc)
• Experience with container technologies and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Experience with devops practices and observability tools
• Experience working with and maintaining a community around open-source software
• Experience in performance analysis and tuning (application and database)
• Expertise in Java Spring Frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Spring JPA, Spring Security, etc)
• Understanding of basic networking concepts (e.g., load balancing, ACLs, DNS)
• Desire to evangelize Developer Culture and lead change within the organization
• Desire to mentor junior developers
