Overview

The Vermont Department of Human Resources (DHR) is looking for a collaborative, service-minded Human Resources Business Partner II to join our team. In this role, you'll help provide responsive, practical, and people-centered HR support to a variety of State agencies and departments, including the Agency of Natural Resources, Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and supporting public servants in meaningful work that impacts communities across Vermont.

As an HR Business Partner, you will provide guidance and support across a broad range of human resources functions, including:

  • Employee relations and performance management
  • Supervisory coaching and consultation
  • Labor relations and contract interpretation
  • Recruitment, hiring, and onboarding
  • Position management and classification
  • Reasonable accommodation requests
  • HR systems work, data entry, and records management in VTHR/PeopleSoft

You'll work closely with employees, supervisors, managers, and HR colleagues to help ensure consistent, fair, and policy-aligned HR practices. This position also involves interpreting and applying personnel policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.

The successful candidate will be someone who is organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a busy environment. You do not need to know everything on day one-we value curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to providing high-quality service.

Strong candidates will bring:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to prioritize work and respond to changing needs
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion
  • Comfort working independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in learning HR systems, processes, policies, and best practices
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365, databases, or HR information systems

The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Most work is completed using HR systems, databases, and Microsoft Office 365 applications. Some work outside the regular schedule may occasionally be required.

DHR currently supports a hybrid telework environment. Telework requests will be considered, with some in-person work required at our Montpelier office.
