Overview

The Driver Improvement Unit at the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join their fast-paced team as a Driver Improvement Specialist. This is a great opportunity to be part of a collaborative team of eight that plays a key role in keeping Vermont's roadways safe and records accurate. The Driver Improvement Specialist will gain in-depth knowledge of the unit's processes and contribute to the day-to-day operations that support licensing and driver safety.

 

The position will handle a variety of critical transactions, including:

  • Reviewing and processing crash reports
  • Managing insurance documentation
  • Processing in-state and out-of-state convictions and suspensions
  • Handling medical records and related documentation
  • Reviewing ignition interlock program materials
  • Scanning and uploading documents into the DMV system

 

This position will work in person, Monday through Friday, 7:45am to 4:30pm.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to and pass a fingerprint based background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal and traffic records checks. Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Applicant will have the right to withdraw their applications before a background investigation is conducted.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a normal office setting. Human relations skills are required in training and motivating staff and in dealing with upset and irate citizens. Stress may be involved in coping with large volumes of work and production deadlines. Incumbent can anticipate some stressful situations, strong differences of opinion and threat of harm from irate customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of full-time college coursework or an associate's degree or higher.

OR

Completion of a one-year vocational/technical training program in business and office occupations or related area AND one (1) year or more of office clerical experience.
OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years or more of office clerical experience.
