Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAP)

The objective of the Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAP SU) is to provide efficient and effective support and enabling services, and delivery of selected MAP activities as directed by the Mekong Hub at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand to ensure that Australia is a trusted and reliable partner in supporting a resilient, inclusive and sustainable Mekong subregion. The Support Unit will deliver the Leadership and Skills program and enabling services for the Transnational Crime program. It will also support programming by providing administrative, logistical and/or technical support and assistance in the execution of parts of Mekong-Australia Partnership (MAP) such as organising events, conducting training or managing specific components of program delivery.

The Leadership and Skills multi-year program is a strategic, cross-cutting investment designed to deepen Australia's economic and security ties with the Mekong subregion (including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam) by facilitating access to Australian education and professional learning, and promotion of knowledge sharing and subregional cooperation. The Leadership and Skills program contributes to MAP portfolio outcomes by supporting diverse Mekong subregion leaders apply their skills and capabilities to contribute to development across MAP thematic areas and pursue joint, inclusive solutions to shared and transboundary challenges. With strategic guidance from the Mekong Hub and the Leadership and Skills Thematic Working Group, the program will deliver scholarships, short courses, masterclasses, regional dialogues, on-award and alumni engagement activities, including alumni grants.

About the role

As the Awards Officer, you will provide essential support and administration for the AA-MAP Scholarship intake processes in Thailand. You will be the key contact for applicants, awardees, and scholars, ensuring smooth coordination of selection, pre-departure, and mobilisation activities. Working closely with the Awards Manager and the Leadership & Skills team, you will help deliver responsive, inclusive, and well managed scholarship programs aligned with Australia's partnership goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver practical arrangements for key selection activities across each intake such as downloading applications, preparing selection documents, organising and supporting interview panels
  • Administer and triage all inquiries and communications related to scholarship applications, ensuring timely and accurate information sharing.
  • Organise and support interview panels, assessment events, and pre-departure activities (including travel, medical, and visa arrangements).
  • Maintain accurate records in OASIS and program files, verifying documentation and supporting monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks.
  • Liaise with applicants, awardees, scholars, and internal teams; contribute to promotional content and represent the program at events.
  • Uphold DFAT standards for child protection, gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI), and prevent sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH).
  • Support identification and mitigation of risks related to scholar safety, wellbeing, and inclusion throughout the award cycle.
  • Work closely with the Access and Inclusion Coordinator and other MAP SU teams to promote GEDSI and ensure joined-up delivery.

Selection criteria

  • Degree in project management, international development, education, human resources, or related discipline.
  • At least 2 years' relevant experience in scholarship programs, education, or development initiatives, ideally in an international or donor-funded context.
  • Strong administration, organisational, and program coordination skills; excellent interpersonal and communication abilities in Thai and English.
  • Familiarity with DFAT scholarships/alumni programs or similar donor programs; basic understanding of diversity, inclusion, and equity in program delivery.
  • High initiative, cultural competency, professionalism, and commitment to gender equality, disability inclusion, child protection, and safeguarding.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital platforms (e.g., Eventbrite, Mailchimp, social media, CRM databases).
