Summary:  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support and construction management within the Engineering and Remediation Group for civil and environmental projects focusing on remedial engineering and construction. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engineering design of civil and environmental aspects of projects.  Preparation of drawings and specifications to support engineering design work.

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of technical work as part of a major project or for total project. 

  • Competent to serve as a project manager for design and design build projects with guidance from senior personnel.

  • Support preparation of subcontractor procurements, specifications, and bidding documents for construction.

  • Support project proposal preparation.

  • Provide direction to staff personnel to complete project tasks and mentor junior level technical support personnel.   Ability to oversee and certify the work of others.

  • Interface with Client Project Managers, government regulators, other contractors and other representatives.

  • Overnight travel to locations within the United States.

  • Ensure technical accuracy, standard engineering practices and inclusion of appropriate documentation on various reports and design projects

  • Coordinating work with contractors and ensuring project deliverables conform with the technical specifications and respective contract guidelines.

  • Project oversight activities - provide a site presence to inspect contractor work, prepare daily reports and photograph logs, lead weekly progress meetings, review meetings, third party coordination meetings, design coordination meetings and other construction meetings, and issue minutes to involved parties.

  • Prepare and distribute correspondence, agenda, memoranda, action lists, and project related materials.

  • Coordinate manage and report on the overall budget, schedule, risks and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Construction administration of projects, including submittal review.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • The ability to travel up to 50% of the time to project site for site management.
  • Candidates must have experience providing technical design/support for civil and remediation projects.  
  • Knowledge of remediation approaches, excavation techniques, and construction is required. 
  • Direct experience with civil design and construction management is required. 
  • Experience with site planning, slope stability and soil erosion and sediment controls including use of related computer programs such as TR-55, HEC-RAS, and other similar programs is desired.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, construction management required.
  • 10 years of industry -related experience in environmental and construction management.  
  • 40-hour Hazwoper certification and 8-hour Hazwoper refresher.

Other Skills and Abilities  

  • Candidates must have a broad knowledge of site civil and remedial development requirements.  Candidates must possess knowledge to successfully perform site activities including identifying and completing permitting requirements and interfacing with state and local agencies and utility companies.  Experienced at taking civil and site design projects from inception (e.g., proposal preparation) through design, construction and to completion. Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated issue resolution experience.
  • Candidates must be self-motivated, creative and have strong organizational, inter-personal communication, writing and presentation skills.  Candidates must be able to function with little direction to meet project goals and able to take conceptual direction for project tasks and developed detail plans to complete tasks.

  • Prior experience working on fixed price contracts is a plus. 

  • Computer skills must include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Certificate, License, Registration 

Professional engineering registration (e.g., P.E.) is required. 

Language Skills

Must be proficient in the English language both written and spoken. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform routine engineering design calculations.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
