Following the continued success of Tetra Tech (Europe) in securing a variety of new and interesting groundwater and geothermal projects in the defence, education and government services sectors, we have an exciting opportunity for a hydrogeologist or geothermal Consultant to join Tetra Tech.
We are looking for a Hydrogeologist or Geothermal Consultant to join our UK team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual who wants to make a difference, promote the use and protection of groundwater and geothermal and help us tackle one of the biggest challenges of our times. The role is intended to support our business aim of tackling climate change and decarbonise the UK and Irish heat sector. You will also have the opportunity to work on international projects. You will join an established and growing national team of geothermal and groundwater specialists and be part of Tetra Tech's 500 strong national environmental and green energy business.
We carry out techno-economic groundwater resource assessments and geothermal feasibilities, geothermal resource and thermal energy evaluations, intrusive and non-intrusive geothermal investigations, testing and reservoir modelling and assessment across both shallow (<500m) and deep systems (>500m) to help inform business cases and investment opportunities.
Our team has project management experience across the design, construction and testing of exploratory and production wells, injection well drilling and testing, plant and pipework construction and commissioning.
Your Role
We have a broad range of private and public sector clients across the built environment, energy, health, education, defence and infrastructure sectors. Your main duties and responsibilities will be to support our geothermal specialists, hydrogeologists and green energy engineers with the:
- Preparation of groundwater abstraction feasibility, resource evaluation, site characterisation and assessment reports,
- Groundwater modelling to support a wide range of projects, including but not limited to groundwater quality, quantity and flow assessments.
- preparation of geothermal and ground source heating and cooling feasibility assessments,
- the design, procurement, supervision and management of geothermal investigations,
- the interpretation of geological, hydrogeological and thermal investigation data. The preparation of techno-economic geothermal feasibility assessments;
- Carry out closed loop geothermal design and associated modelling, with support and mentoring from our Principal Geothermal Engineer;
- Numerical modelling (heat and groundwater) in support of geothermal proposals.
- Provide advice to clients in respect of the technical and commercial aspects of geothermal systems, constraints and opportunities.
- Support the business development of the groundwater and geothermal team in Tetra Tech by inputting to our business strategy and supporting our business development opportunities.
You will also be expected to:
· Support and lead on smaller projects
· Attend and, at times, lead project meetings with project teams, capturing minutes and tracking actions
· Following our internal governance requirements
· Support Senior Managers with internal project finances
· Prepare project tools including programmes, risk registers, requests for information, assumptions and issues registers and decisions logs
· Support project change control management
As part of this role, you will be involved with and oversee the production of desk study assessments, the accurate collection of site data (including hydrogeological, geophysical and thermal response testing) and the production of detailed factual and interpretative reports which are supported by numerical modelling. You will lead on the design of geothermal systems and support the geothermal and groundwater team.

You will work alongside other geothermal, hydrogeological, green energy and engineering specialists and help deliver holistic solutions that meet our clients' needs. Additionally, you will be expected to collaborate with a wide range of multi-disciplinary teams in other offices.
About You
As a minimum you will hold a master's degree in geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, geothermal energy or relevant discipline. Whilst not essential, it would be desirable for you to have a post graduate qualification such as a Doctorate degree (PhD). You should also be working towards Chartership with a relevant body, such as The Geological Society. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

· Good communication skills both oral and written
· Good practical knowledge of Microsoft Software, including Excel, Project and Word
· Professional and ethical in everything that you do
· Hold a UK Driving Licence
· Have experience of exploratory drilling / geothermal or hydrogeological investigations and the skills and knowledge to interpret geological, hydrogeological and thermal investigation data.
· Be able to prepare desktop study reports incorporating a wide range of data sub-surface data and be able to contribute to interpretative reports.
· Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be fully IT literate as you will be required to write clear, concise and technically robust reports.
· Have a good understanding of health, safety and environmental management.
· Be a team player with good social, interpersonal and communication skills.
