The opportunity

  • Appointment until 30 June 2026
  • Short Term Adviser role with inputs of approx. 80 days per year with travel to Nauru


Nauru Education Program

The NEP Literacy and Numeracy Adviser will play a pivotal role in strengthening the quality of teaching and learning to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes across Nauru's education system. This role focuses on early years and primary education, with additional support for disengaged secondary students. The Adviser will deliver technical advice, coaching, and professional development to educators, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure inclusive and effective learning strategies. 


Key responsibilities

  • Deliver professional development and coaching to teachers and principals.
  • Support inclusive, student-centred pedagogy and instructional leadership.
  • Collaborate with NEP team members to develop teaching resources and exemplar lessons.
  • Analyse benchmarking data and contribute to planning and reporting.
  • Promote community engagement in literacy and numeracy development.
  • Support re-engagement strategies for students outside mainstream education.


Selection criteria

  • A relevant graduate or postgraduate qualification and at least 10 years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in literacy and numeracy instruction using student-centred, inclusive approaches.
  • Proven ability to deliver professional development and coaching to educators and school leaders.
  • Experience using data to inform teaching practices and improve learning outcomes.
  • Strong curriculum development skills and knowledge of inclusive education practices.
  • Experience working in low-resource environments, ideally in the Pacific region.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with government and community stakeholders.
  • English language proficiency, demonstrated through study or work in English-speaking contexts.
