About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Engineering Geologist to join our team in Leeds to work largely in the north of England. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to join our northern geo-environment consulting team of 30 staff (currently 11 staff based in Leeds) and part of Tetra Tech's 100 strong national geo-environmental resource.
Our northern geo-environment consulting team provides services for a broad range of private clients and the public sector, working on a variety challenging projects and sites and often with colleagues in multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for providing engineering geology and geo-environmental services for water utilities clients such as United Utilities and Yorkshire Water and for development clients such as Harworth Estates, Homes England and the MOD.
About You
You will be experienced and knowledgeable in current practice and governing standards/guidance for geotechnical and contaminated land ground investigation and interpretation. You will be self-driven and be striving to achieve Chartership if you have not already done so. We have an approved training and mentoring scheme aligned with The Geological Society to support the chartership process for Chartered Geologist and Chartered Scientist.
Responsibilities will include;
- Mentoring, supporting, line management and training of junior members of the team,
- Project and financial management,
- Completion of fee quotations and tenders,
- Undertaking / review of desk top assessments and ground constraints assessments,
- Design of ground investigations,
- Technical oversight of ground investigations including site visits,
- Scheduling of laboratory testing (geotechnical and contamination),
- Geotechnical interpretation of ground investigations (GIR) including derivation of geotechnical material parameters and engineering considerations,
- Geotechnical option assessments,
- Earthworks specifications, slope stability and settlement assessment,
- Contaminated land assessment (if experienced in this)
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- You will hold a degree and/or masters degree in geology, engineering geology or geotechnical engineering.
- You will have substantial experience in engineering geology from desk top review stage through to interpretation including slope stability assessment, foundation recommendations, dewatering temporary works etc.
- You will have supervised ground investigations,
- You will have experience in undertaking coal mining risk assessments and ideally experience in writing grouting specifications,
- Ideally you will also have experience in contaminated land assessment
- You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be fully IT literate as you will be required to write clear, concise and technically robust reports.
- You must have a good understanding of health, safety and environmental management, as applied to ground investigation.
- You will be a team player with strong social, interpersonal and communication skills.
