Tetra Tech is adding a Principal Scientist to our team based in Santa Barbara. 

Your Role :

The Candidate will provide strategic regulatory guidance on highly sensitive and complex environmental projects with multiple stakeholders including various regulators such as the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Regional Water Quality Control Boards, California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), adjacent and nearby landowners, various community groups, and responsible parties.  The Candidate will also support business growth in southern California with existing and new clients based on industry knowledge and existing relationships. This may include identifying new public sector clients in areas of environmental compliance, sustainability, and restoration.  The candidate will monitor regulatory trends and funding opportunities to identify emerging markets and project opportunities.  The Candidate will represent Tetra Tech at industry events, conferences, and community advisory groups for opportunities to engage public sector agencies overseeing environmental programs.

 

•   Bachelor's degree in Health Science or a related field.
•    30+ years of experience with environmental site investigations, risk assessments, remediation and CEQA.
•    Working knowledge of Local, State, Federal and environmental regulations including DTSC and CalEPA.
•    Contacts at municipal, county and state agencies that oversee environmental programs.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
•    A valid California driver's license in good standing. 
•    Deep understanding of environmental regulations, permitting processes, and compliance frameworks at the local and state levels
•    Strong knowledge of municipal and state environmental programs, including water quality, air quality, waste stream management, and climate resilience.
•    Ability to cultivate relationships with public sector clients, including environmental departments at the municipal, county, and state levels.
•    Ability to support proposal development, presentations, and negotiations for public sector contracts.
•    Willingness and ability to travel as needed, approximately 10%.

Other Skills: Instructions:  Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Windows – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc. and have a general understanding of utilizing artificial intelligence such as Copilot in the workplace to increase productivity and efficiency.

 
The hourly rate for this position is $125.00 to $135.00.
