Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Senior Scientist who can apply their technical expertise to address complex water resources challenges and contribute to the growth of our team. This position would report to our Fairfax, VA office.

What You'll Get to Do: 
We are in search of a highly-motivated team member to join our family of scientists and engineers to lead business development for projects involving Clean Water Act program implementation, nutrient pollution, water quality standards, environmental policy, watershed planning, modeling, point source discharge permitting and controls, and nonpoint source pollution assessment. In this senior-level consulting position, you will also support projects by applying your academic knowledge and job skills to real-world water quality issues, while serving clients at the federal, state, tribal, and local levels. Your work will involve routine and non-routine assignments related to water resources projects of substantial variety and complexity.

More About This Role: 
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead business development efforts by exploring project opportunities with existing external and internal clients and developing new clients through existing and new relationships.
  • Support projects and lead tasks related to nonpoint source pollution control, watershed assessment and planning, agricultural conservation practices, nutrient loss reduction, and environmental policy support.
  • Perform tasks to support environmental projects and pursuits, including:
    • Developing technical analyses to support pollution-reduction activities
    • Analyzing large datasets and reviewing statistical analyses
    • Reviewing technical information from journal articles, federal and state reports, and other sources
    • Synthesizing information and developing written products (e.g., water resource reports, training modules, research summaries)
    • Reviewing written analyses and summaries developed by others
    • Supporting development of and providing technical input related to EPA policies
    • Implementing QA/QC policies/procedures to meet federal and state research requirements
    • Serving as a project manager, monitoring budgets and schedules, and ensuring completion of deliverables
    • Giving technical presentations to a broad audience
    • Promoting and participating in business development
    • Maintaining senior-level relationships with key clients to support business development
    • Preparing proposals and reviewing or leading development of technical approaches
    • Conducting client communication and representing Tetra Tech in client meetings
       

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related scientific/engineering field
  • 25 years or more of relevant work experience minimum
  • Knowledge of federal and state clean water legislation and regulations
  • Professional experience related to the Clean Water Act, nutrients, water quality standards, environmental policy, watershed planning, point source discharge permitting and control, and nonpoint source pollution assessment and control
  • Evidence of a strong research background
  • Experience in managing large and complex projects and contracts
  • Ability to identify and target opportunities and build new work
  • Leader and team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills 
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applications
  • Excellent research, technical writing, and verbal communication skills/experience
  • Able to handle multiple tasks/projects at once
  • Highly dependable, detail-oriented, flexible, and responsive to tight or changing client-driven deadlines
  • Able to interact well with coworkers and existing clients in a professional and confident manner
  • Excitement to work in a dynamic work environment 
  • Willingness to learn new skills
