The Equitable Climate Outcomes Advisor provides technical and program support to Conservancy climate projects and strategies. They serve as the principle contact to external and internal partners who bring expertise and experience on climate and equity. They establish the Conservancy as a major partner within equitable climate outcomes, define equitable climate priorities, and may lead and manage a team which supports and improves conservation and climate efforts.
The Equitable Climate Outcomes Advisor develops key partnerships with public & private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices and engages local community support for local conservation and climate efforts. They negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and other partners to ensure equitable climate outcomes. They also work internally both with the Global Climate team but also the teams around the world the Climate teams supports to think about how to ensure equitable climate outcomes. This may include developing trainings, serving directly as an advisor, or providing resources and information to help shape the best and most equitable approach.
The Advisor will help set an overarching strategy for the Climate work and its integration of equity and will be the key advisor in supporting staff to implement the strategy. The Equitable Climate Outcomes Advisor will be internally connected to the Equitable Conservation team and directly supervised by the Managing Director of Climate Outcomes. They will serve the key point of connection between the Global Climate and the Equitable Conservation team bringing best practices and learnings from the Equitable Conservation team to the Global Climate team. As appropriate, they will represent TNC at key events and speak about learnings and stories as they help deliver equitable climate outcomes in service of TNC's 2030 climate goals.
We're Looking for You:The Equitable Climate Outcomes Advisor oversees all aspects of developing and implementing equitable approaches to The Nature Conservancy's (TNC's) Global Climate strategies as part of the Global Tackle Climate Change Team. The Equitable Climate Outcomes Advisor provides leadership and support for TNC's climate work bringing an equity lens and helps establish strategic priorities for the climate work.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Geographic size and scope is that of a larger, complex business unit and/or a program that requires cross-boundary work and relationships.
- May supervise staff at remote locations.
- Responsible for creation and delivery of an equitable climate outcomes strategy.
- Key partner for the Global Climate team to the Equitable Conservation team.
- Externally facing leader on Equitable Climate Outcomes for TNC.
- Acts as advisor and support for not only the Global Climate team but the teams around the world they support.
- Creates a network for the Global Climate team to draw on for input and advice as the team further develops Equitable Climate Outcomes.
- Develops trainings and materials to support integration of equity and equitable approaches into Climate work across TNC.
- Ensures high quality delivery of TNC's 2030 climate goals.
- Establishes and maintains optimal performance standards within budget.
- Writes requests for proposal (RFPs) for grant/contract funding for program.
- Successfully influences decisions without authority and rapidly develops trust to influence teams towards success.
- Frequently makes independently strategic decision based on analysis, ambiguous information and context.
- Negotiates complex agreements, in a political environment.
- Works across a variety of teams with TNC in a highly matrixed environment.
- Frequent travel domestically and/or internationally, evening and weekend hours.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
- BA/BS degree and 7 years' experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
- Experience negotiating.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous or current experience working with The Nature Conservancy is strongly preferred
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience an asset
- 7-10 years' experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
- Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
- Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
- Politically savvy.
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $70,100 – 120,615 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate's qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
