Full time position, 7am - 3:30pm with on call responsibility.

Main Function:

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Technician assists the licensed professional staff in the Endoscopy/Special Procedures area of the Ambulatory Procedures Center (APC). The Endoscopy Technician assures that there are always appropriate and adequate instruments, equipment and disposable supplies on hand in the minor procedure and endoscopy rooms. The Endoscopy Technician initiates procedures to assure that equipment is disinfected/sterilized and in good working order. The Endoscopy Technician assists nursing staff in providing direct patient care, vital signs, patient transport & clerical duties.

 

Required Job Specific Competencies:

Demonstrates skill in assisting professional staff in APC procedures. Maintains and obtains the necessary equipment and instruments. Demonstrates knowledge of infection control & universal precautions. Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to patients, staff and the health system. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.

 

Qualifications:

Nurse Aide certificate preferred.

 

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required.

 

Experience:

One year experience in bedside or perioperative care in a long-term or acute health facility, or in Sterile Reprocessing.

 

Working Conditions/Hazards/Equipment & Machinery Used:

•Walks, stands for long periods. Must be able to lift, push and pull heavy weights during patient care. Works in well ventilated areas. Rooms are well lit but lights are frequently dimmed during procedures. May be subject to temperature variable when accompanying patients to discharge areas. Frequently exposed to disagreeable odors, sights, sounds, body wastes, blood, hazardous materials, etc. Exposed to emotional stresses associated with care of the ill and dying.

•Endoscopy technicians may be required to work overtime during emergency cases and be available for ON-call coverage of the unit. May be asked to work variable shifts to facilitate APC and Endoscopy scheduling.
