As an Engineer at United Rentals, you will be responsible for the engineering support of multiple stores within the Power & HVAC region. You will be dedicated to meeting electrical engineering needs of contractors, industrial and commercial companies, and in doing so, drive profitable engineering revenue.

Additional duties include:

  • Create electrical system plans for site-specific projects.
  • Produce one line diagrams, method of procedures, arc flash calculations, and plot plans.
  • Review site conditions to ensure we are providing the correct equipment for site limitations / practicality or environmental factors.
  • Ensure engineering drawings and plans are accurate and meet applicable engineering design standards and federal, state, NEC, OSHA, and JHA requirements.
  • Assess situations that arise during field installation and recommend corrective actions.
  • Educate as necessary and provide engineering support to Power & HVAC sales representatives.
  • Provide onsite and virtual technical training for Power & HVAC technicians.
  • Review proposals for accuracy.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field.
  • 2+ years of experience as a degreed engineer with an electrical engineering concentration.
  • Ideally but not required; certified as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) / Engineering Intern (EI) or has met eligibility requirements.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical engineering analysis and design standards.
  • Familiarity with basic equipment testing procedures and interpretation of test results.
  • Familiarity with power generation. Especially portable diesel generators.
  • Familiarity with arc flash safety standards (including NFPA 70E).
  • Experience with software suites similar to AutoCAD, SKM, and Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to effectively work independently, as well as within a team environment.
  • Must be able to effectively work with customers, branch managers, and sales representatives to conceptually plan and negotiate electrical system designs.
  • Strong organizational skills and fine attention to detail.
