Job Summary

Under the direction of the study PI and supervised by the Director of Clinical Research within the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, this position serves as a Recruitment and Retention specialist for the Alzheimer's Disease Research center longitudinal cohort and the associated projects. Following the study protocol and strictly adhering to IRB and HIPAA regulations, the incumbent will be responsible for sharing information about research studies, preparing, and giving presentations to our existing cohort and new recruitment channels, and screening participants for study inclusion.

In addition to recruitment, the incumbent will be pivotal in retention activities including but not limited to, participant appreciation events, maintaining communication with existing cohort members and their families, and working with the Community Advisory Board to direct recruitment efforts appropriately. 

This role will be responsible for tracking recruitment events and enrollees from these events in electronic databases and reporting these data to leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • CITI Certification for Biomedical Researchers and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) within three (3) months of hire.
  • Associate degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experience with recruitment, retention, or community outreach.
  • Basic knowledge of clinical or psychological research.
  • Experience engaging with cognitively impaired or elderly populations.
  • Experience in a customer service or community or public service setting.
  • Continuing education in related field required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to establish good rapport with patients and caregivers.
  • Able to show sensitivity to the needs of patients with cognitive impairment and their caregivers.
  • Able to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Able to prioritize and organize work responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated flexibility with changing priorities, work environment, and schedules.
  • Takes initiative to accomplish tasks and completes duties as assigned.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Able to use computer systems and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish speaking preferred.

Department Description

The Department of Neurology conducts basic and clinical research on the nervous system and provides clinical care for people with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders like Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, tremor, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, headache, and sleep disorders.

Our faculty includes leading neuroscientists, who work to expand our knowledge of nervous system function, as well as neurologists and psychologists who provide diagnosis and treatment for adults and children. We partner with colleagues from throughout the health system and work closely with the Department of Neurological Surgery to provide multidisciplinary team management for neurological disorders. We also offer cutting-edge diagnostic approaches, including advanced neuroimaging technologies and access to trials of new medications and other therapeutic modalities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must understand and follow federal, state and university regulations for conducting research on human subjects.
  • Must understand and follow good clinical practices for clinical research.
  • Must be able to work overtime and flexible hours when required (evenings, weekends)
  • Local and out-of-state travel may be required to attend research meetings and educational and community events.

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
