Position Summary:
  The UC Irvine Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. The Network Engineering Team is part of the Network and Telecommunications Services Group in the Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (EI&O) division. This division is a vital part of the Office of Information Technology (OIT), providing network services to support and enable the mission of the University.
  Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Network and Telecom Services, the Manager, Network Services provides leadership, direction, and oversight to enterprise wired and wireless systems, network and telecommunications infrastructure and DNS services. This position will lead a team of network engineers, collaborating closely with service customers and stakeholders across campus and UCI Health, including but not limited to administration, IT security, academic units, public safety, clinicians, and research labs. This position: • Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. • Provides direction to staff according to established policies and management guidance and provides priority setting and workflow analysis. • Administers policies and recommends changes to department policies and practices that directly affect subordinate staff. • Identifies risks and responds accordingly for the design, development, delivery, security, and ongoing operations of UCI's network services. • Develops the service and technology roadmap for the network ecosystem, incorporating emerging technology trends and industry practices. • Prepares and manages fiscally sound multi-year operating budgets and network asset lifecycle budgets. • Responsible for ensuring compliance with statutes, University policy and industry practice (e.g., HIPAA, PCI, CJIS, NIST 800-171, IS-3) are met. • Provides thought leadership on campus-wide infrastructure projects, explores, and implements automation opportunities. • Works closely with UCI Health IT to ensure optimal support for hybrid academic and clinical buildings and sites. • Drives a culture of continuous improvement across multiple dimensions, including workforce talent management, team operations, and performance. • Ensures the timely recovery of network services when interrupted, leading incident command of outages, providing regular leadership updates, and ensuring 24x7x365 on-call escalation and onsite response within one hour.

  $100,600.00 - $190,800.00 (Annual Salary)


 

Required:  
  • Five plus (5+) years of demonstrated network technical leadership in a people management role AND/OR Five plus (5+) years in IT technical project management AND/OR Two plus (2+) years managing financial budgets.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field.
  • CCNA or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of professional communications and network systems in the completion of diverse assignments. 
  • Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility including the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, identifying, and integrating of suitable emerging technologies. 
  • Advanced knowledge of the practices and techniques of the voice and data field and the ability to determine a course of action based on guidelines. In-depth, advanced understanding of various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software focused on Cisco wired, wireless, TACACS, ISE, Firepower products, F5 load balancing, and Palo Alto firewalls. 
  • Requires full knowledge of design, implementation, and compliance of IPv4 public, private, and NAT-D devices, knowledge, and experience of IPv6, routing protocols BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP. 
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with network management systems. 
  • Cisco DNAC (catalyst manager), and Netreo Omni Center. Requires the ability to gather, organize, and prioritize work assignments, with limited guidance. 
  • Knowledge of subject matter area sufficient to strategic planning, technology assessment and direction. 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of service delivery principles. 
  • Requires technical knowledge and skills associated with voice and data network systems. 
  • Strong DNS platform skills to manage, update, and maintain enterprise DNS platforms, BIND, and Red Hat Rel 9. 
  • Must be able to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner and present topics to individuals and groups with varied levels of technical sophistication. 
  • Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
