DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

UC Scout is a division of the UC Santa Cruz Extension. While UC Scout's home campus is located at 3175 Bowers Avenue in Santa Clara, the UC Scout team is a fully remote team, with individuals making occasional visits to the campus as needed. UC Scout serves high school students, providing online high school courses for students and curricula for educators.

UC Scout's growing team comprises six departments: instructional design, media, academics, support, outreach, and business intelligence. The team consists of approximately 60 full-time staff and 80 part-time employees. UC Scout works closely with UCSC Extension support staff, including IT, finance, and the office of the Dean to support UC Scout's goals.

JOB SUMMARY

The Outreach Associate supports the implementation of sales and outreach strategies to enhance UC Scout's visibility and impact. This role assists in developing and carrying out marketing and outreach initiatives aimed at engaging schools, educators, organizations, parents, and students. Focused on establishing initial contacts, assisting in lead and partnership development, and nurturing leads through the enrollment funnel, the Outreach Associate plays a supportive role in the broader Outreach team efforts. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning and execution of marketing events, creating basic promotional materials and campaigns, and conducting preliminary market research.

 

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $33.52 - $38.31/hour.  Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

55% - Execute Outreach Strategies

  • Under general supervision, plans, develops, and implements basic marketing plans, strategies, and events for small or non-complex projects.
  • Identifies target audiences and executes tailored outreach plans (e.g. personalized outreach strategies based on the needs of the specific schools, districts, students, and teachers) to drive sales and increase UC Scout adoption.
  • Utilizes various channels (e.g. email campaigns, webinars, conferences, phone calls) to engage with schools, educators, organizations, and partners.
  • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates webinars.
  • Uses communication strategies to effectively reach and engage target audiences.
  • Across all job functions, researches and resolves problems.

20% - Build and Maintain Relationships

  • Ensures good customer service by providing appropriate information to answer questions and explain products and services.
  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with schools, districts, educational organizations, UC departments, and community stakeholders through the funnel from lead to enrollment.
  • Expands the reach of messages and programs, contributing to overall marketing goals.
  • Provides support and in-depth information about UC Scout to all stakeholders.
  • Encourages adoption of UC Scout among target schools, districts, stakeholder communities, and students.

10% - In-Person Outreach and Events

  • Visits schools, conferences, and events for basic strategic outreach.
  • Under general supervision, strategizes, oversees, and executes in-person events designed to compellingly communicate UC Scout's value among target audiences including administrators, teachers, and others aligned with UC Scout's mission.

10% - Content Creation and Execution

  • Drafts and edits copy for marketing projects or programs such as publications, advertisements, press releases, announcements, etc.
  • Develops and maintains content for presentations, publications, web pages, and email campaigns to showcase the benefits of UC Scout.
  • Conducts basic market research and generates and uses marketing and sales reports.
  • Creates and maintains marketing files, records, calendars, logs, and other related documents.

5% - Data Tracking and Reporting

  • Monitors and analyzes outreach efforts to evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Maintains accurate records of outreach activities and outcomes.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate UC Scout plan types, policies, and procedures to prospective schools, teachers, students and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings/workshops and do presentations over video and in person.
  • Solid verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance and management.
  • Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of California A-G and AP courses in addition to UC admissions requirements.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-hire criminal history background check and a pre-hire credentialing check.
  • Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • This is a fully remote position, and the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
  • Ability to work overtime including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays to meet operational needs, and work an alternate work schedule shift as required.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
  • Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.
  • Ability to travel within a defined regional or service area.
  • Ability to travel nationally.
  • Ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
