Position Summary:
  The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. The OIT Project Management Office provides leadership and coordination of large cross-functional projects. We also develop and continually enhance project management guidelines and tools and educate project leaders throughout the university on utilizing project management best practices.
  Under the direct supervision of the Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager uses project management concepts and applies campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve routine issues. Works on technical project management activities of limited scope and complexity including developing, maintaining, and managing project artifacts including project charter, project management plans, project schedule, risk/action item/issue/decision logs, status reports, etc. The Project Manager learns and applies industry standard technical project management frameworks, methods, and techniques to manage and lead multiple concurrent projects of limited scope, size, impact, budget and / or project team size, with limited impact to the organization. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. The incumbent also helps support medium-to-large-scale, highly technical projects which includes coordinating meetings, driving tasks, and tracking and reporting on project status, risks, and issues. Additionally, as member of UCI OIT's Project Manager Office (PMO), the Project Manager helps shape how the PMO serves the campus. This includes developing PMO guidelines, document templates, and tools that define OIT's project management life cycle, performing regular project audits and providing administrative support to other OIT PMO professionals.

$29.26 - $51.29 (Hourly Rate)
  Required:  
  • Zero (0) to one (1) year of experience in building project plans, schedules, establishing project timelines, defining milestones, and deliverables in a business and/or higher education and/or technology environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Requires effective communication both verbally and in writing and organization skills. 
  • Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts. 
  • Requires ability to assess campus, medical center or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs. 
  • Familiarity with Project management tools like Smartsheet, MS Project, JIRA ServiceNow Project Management module. 
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. 
  • Basic knowledge of financial and accounting principles. 
  • Proficiency in using MS Excel for data analysis, including expertise with formulas and functions. 
  • Proficiency in using MS Power Point, Word, SharePoint, Google suite and Confluence. 
  • Demonstrated ability to self-learn at a fast pace and share new techniques aimed at enhancing Project Management Office (PMO) efficiency. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
     
Preferred:  
  • Familiarity with waterfall and Agile/Scrum methodologies. 
  • Ability to assess risks and issues and develop contingency plans. 
  • Familiarity with UCI and education industry-specific terminology and standards. 
  • Experience in scheduling and leading meetings with cross-functional (business users and technical staff) teams. 
  • Familiarity with software development, implementation, and integration projects through a formal Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
