Position Summary:
  Under general supervision of the Contract and Grant manager of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, the incumbent is responsible for the financial post-award administrative management of major federal, non-federal, and private contracts and grants as well as other extramural/Intramural funds that support various research activities of the department. As part of the Department's business staff, the incumbent has independent decision-making authority, policy analysis and interpretation, and problem-solving responsibilities that require ongoing interaction with all levels of department and university staff. The incumbent is responsible for providing specific direction to faculty and staff to assure compliance with contracts and grant costing principles. This requires knowledge of agency-specific contracts and grants policies, material management to include purchasing and equipment acquisition principals, personnel/payroll policies and procedures, research subcontracting concepts, indirect cost principles, and policies and practices related to Uniform Guidance/UG and Federal CAS requirements. Incumbents support purchasing needs, reconcile encumbrance reports, process campus recharges and work orders as assigned, and provide additional support to the administrative staff while remaining compliant with UC policies and procedures. Work on assignments that are diverse and complex in nature, requiring strong analytical skills necessary to compare purchasing options. Assist with monthly ledger reconciliation and fiscal close activities. Receive assignments from the management team, make independent decisions, and determine how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. The position will support the Experimental Pathology Graduate Program. This entails updating course schedules, reviewing program information for the general catalog, and submitting instructional reports. Assist faculty with logistics for teaching, such as room reservations and Zoom setup, and facilitate student evaluations. Additionally, they maintain student records, monitor grade submissions, and aid students with required forms for degree progress. Furthermore, they coordinate integrating incoming second-year students from related gateway programs, managing transfer agreements and change of major processes. Overall, the role involves comprehensive management and support to ensure the smooth functioning of the graduate program.
  Under general supervision, manage research proposals, awards and / or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. Receives assignments on a project basis and thoroughly analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions. May be eligible for delegated signature authority. Completes transactions assigned by the manager or other authorized institutional official.

  The expected pay range for this recruitment is $29.26 - $40.28 . The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $∞ - ($∞) .

Required:  
  • 2 to 5 years
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting. Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
     
Preferred:  
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment. 
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc. 
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions. Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques 
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsorÆs guidelines.
