Department Overview
As a security first organization, Technology Delivery Services (TDS) is part of the Information Technology (IT) Department. The TDS teams include Information Security, Planning (architecture and PMO), Application Development, HR & Payroll Development, Infrastructure, and Client Services teams. Position Summary
The Senior Application Architect - Pension Administration System (PAS) will be responsible for leading the overall technical implementation of changes and enhancements to the UC Redwood system and supporting tools.  This includes the design, development, and implementation of the Retirement Services applications and technology services. The Pension Administration system is built on the Sagitec Neospin Framework. The Senior Application Architect will need to be the subject matter expert that understands the PAS system and its components, as well as the business processes and how the system supports each team / department within the UC and overall UC Policy.  This role will collaborate with RASC and ITS to define how to build and support processes, deliverables, and scheduling.  The Senior Application Architect oversees the work of the technical teams while providing guidance and mentorship, while fostering an inclusive work environment. 

Key Responsibilities

35% SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Operate as the technology subject matter expert for the UC Pension Administration System. Responsible for the leading the overall design, development, and delivery of application functionality to support retirement business functions across UC. Exercise sound judgment in the selection and implementation of technology platforms, interfaces, security, data integration/migration, and sustainable operations. Committed to learning business processes and outcomes along with industry pension best practices. Expected to identify best practices that may optimize or improve on existing processes and technology. Close partnership with product management on their needs and how individual requests interrelate or conflict.

25% TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP: Lead a team, directly and/or indirectly, of business systems analysts, developers, and quality assurance analysts to deliver product solutions. Mentor teams with their work to increase subject matter expertise and improve efficiency. Provide vendor management to ensure UC standards and practices are followed. Interact with numerous teams to implement system architecture required to effectively support the pension systems. Effectively communicate with teams to ensure they understand their requirements and delivery timeframes. Foster an innovative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.

25% ANALYSIS: Perform system troubleshooting to understand the root cause and provide solutions which address the problem. Generate unique solutions to problems rather than relying on workarounds. Guide other teams in their troubleshooting. Build repeatable processes to analyze the systems for issues which need to be addressed. Support operational teams in understanding their processes and proposing improvements.

15% DOCUMENTATION: Develop and document detailed architectural design documents for the pension administration systems. Compile various documentation artifacts such as process flows, diagrams, etc. Create written proposals to present to leadership for decision-making and approval. Assist with creating communications and project plans to ensure alignment with technology implementation.


Experience
Required Qualifications

  • Min 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Min 2 years of direct experience architecting and/or developing Pension Administration Systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of UC Policy, statutes/regulations, and agreements with respect to pension.
  • Experience in higher education strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies including Kanban and Scrum.
  • Experience developing and executing complex test plans.
  • Excellent project leadership and management skills.

Full Salary Range:
$129,600 - $254,400

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
