Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.44/hour - $29.12/hour.

Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $23.41/hour - $30.89/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Work Location: Recreation Center

Working Days and Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm, nights and weekends as needed

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Responsible for the general repair, maintenance, and upkeep of the facilities managed by the Recreation Department. Handles the purchasing of basic supplies and materials to maintain the facilities. Assists with the receiving of deliveries. Performs basic maintenance & repair, equipment set-up for classes and events, inspection of facilities, assists with field lining, vehicle maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Other duties assigned may also include various cleaning and maintenance tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Four years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work, or one year as a Building Maintenance Worker; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience/training preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to repair machinery and electronic equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Competent General Computer skills, i.e. Google suite, Word suite.
  • Knowledge and competency in researching, ordering and inventory supplies/hardware.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain valid CA DL, a clean DMV record and enrollment in DMV Pull-Notice Program
  • Satisfactory conviction history background check

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

65% General Maintenance, Set-Up & Event Duties: 

  • General Maintenance of the Recreation Center to include: Hanging signs, setting up and maintaining table tennis equipment, tightening dasher boards, replacing basketball rims and nets, use pressure washer/steamer.
  • Sets-up and tears down equipment for classes, Recreation events, intercollegiate athletics events, camps and special events.
  • Removes and stores equipment prior to and after usage.
  • Keeps restroom and locker room facilities stocked and cleaned as needed during events. Helps clean facilities after use. Communicates with the Custodial staff as needed.
  • Maintains a variety of machines needed to perform job duties (such as: scoreboards, washers and dryers).
  • Replaces and maintains sports equipment including but not limited to volleyball nets and standards, basketball hoops and nets, badminton standards and nets, tennis nets.
  • Repairs and maintains athletic equipment as needed and as assigned.
  • Assist with summer camp set-ups.
  • Delivers, loads and unloads materials and cleans storage areas, shop areas, electrical and mechanical rooms and trucks.
  • Enters work orders through the TMA system and following up with FM workers that are assigned to the issue.
  • Assists the resident Skilled Trade Mechanic with simple work order completion.
  • Contacts vendors and companies for quotes and to schedule repair work.

15% Purchasing & Ordering: 

  • Keeps a running inventory of parts and orders the necessary parts and supplies as needed.
  • Orders parts and replacement equipment as needed.
  • Enters data into purchasing software, tracks receipts, follows policies regarding purchasing and receiving items. Maintains a department credit card.
  • Communicates regularly with professional staff and instructors about the equipment.
  • Ensures items are delivered or picked up in a timely manner. Includes driving to local stores to purchase items as needed.

10% Facility Maintenance and Inspection:  

  • Serves as the primary back-up for field lining and maintenance.
  • Marks and lines athletic and recreation fields as needed.
  • Performs minor field repair and maintenance as needed and assigned.

5% Assist with Field Lining/Repair/Maintenance as needed:

  • Conducts frequent routine inspections of facilities for any areas needing attention and submits verbal or written reports to the supervisor.
  • Notifies supervisor in writing of plumbing, electrical, custodial and grounds problems in and proximal to Rob Gym, Campus Pool, Stadiums, Fields, Tennis Courts, and Recreation Center.
  • Liaises with Facilities Management workers (i.e. Plumbing, electrical, grounds...) doing assigned fixes to Dept. building/facilities

5% Miscellaneous/Other Duties: 

  • Attends staff meetings as required. Serves on department, divisional, and campus committees as assigned. May perform other duties as assigned.
