  The ICS Computing Support Team team manages ICS computing. Team members' work is assigned via helpdesk and project tickets. The team resolves over 1000 tickets per year from ICS employees and students. The ICS Computing Support Team manages research, instructional, administrative and critical IT infrastructure which includes, among other things, web services, dozens of wordpress sites, over a petabyte of storage, and ICS email. The incumbent will work on moderately sized projects and project tickets under the direction of senior computing support staff. They will provide support to end users by responding to and resolving computing support helpdesk tickets that are sent to the system operations team. They will work to automate repetitive tasks or provide documentation for tasks that cannot be automated. They will prioritize and assign incoming service and helpdesk requests increasing the ability for the team to respond to time critical requests. They will improve the system operations group's overall timeliness in processing helpdesk tickets. They will provide end user training and internal documentation.   Total Compensation:

Required:  
  • 1-3 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. 
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Linux operating system and industry standard system administration principals. 
  • Knowledge of containerization tools such as kubernetes, docker, and singularity. 
  • Knowledge of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance. 
  • Knowledge of other areas of IT. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of python, perl, or another programming language commonly used in systems administration. 
  • Knowledge of the Linux system programming environment.
  Preferred:  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer security best practices and policies. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of common file system and storage technologies such as NAS, SAN, ZFS and RAID. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of installing, configuring, optimizing, and maintaining Linux based server applications like Apache Web Server and MySQL Knowledge of network technologies, especially DNS, VLANs, firewalls, and load balancers. 
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet, and code revision tools like Git. 
  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs. 
  • Knowledge of how system management actions affect users and dependent / related functions. 
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as prometheus, grafana, nagios, etc. 
  • Knowledge of distributed job scheduling tools such as SGE or SLURM. 
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit programs used to perform system maintenance and administration.
