Description
Reporting to the director of development communications, the communications specialist will assist the development communications team by coordinating, writing, editing and producing giving and alumni news and updates for University publications, websites, emails and social media platforms, and will generate collateral to support a variety of University events. This position contributes to the creation of print and digital media, assisting in managing production schedules for internal and external communications products. Will also collect, organize and secure rights to photography for use in various materials.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in English, journalism or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or a related discipline.
- Two years of communications experience, including writing and editing content and proofing for grammar, punctuation and usage errors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt content for use on multiple platforms.
- Fluent in Associated Press style.
Preferred candidates would be:
- Able to adjust the tone of their writing to engage audiences across multiple platforms.
- Knowledgeable and experienced with photography or photography direction and editing.
- Experienced with content production for HTML, web-based platforms.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Write, edit and verify content for use in University publications (print and digital), stewardship efforts (individualized letters and custom reports for donors), event collateral (invitations, programs and presentations) and giving proposals.
- Determine newsworthy stories, conduct interviews, write website and social media content and advise on public distribution strategies.
- Secure photography and art for publication alongside written pieces.
- Develop content for giving and alumni websites and assist with email production.
- Coordinate with graphic designers and social media managers to design and publish final products.
- Ensure that all written material conforms to University and Office of Development and Alumni Relations brand standards.
- Some night and weekend hours will be required.

Remote Work Notice:
Hybrid remote work environment available and a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement is required upon employment. Use of personal computer and other standard office equipment may be required. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice.
