Job Summary
The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for all administrative aspects of the program, including scheduling, recruiting, team management, budgeting, and the direction of UTD-identified athletic and sport camps. This role requires representing the department and university in a professional and ethical manner and adhering to the Code of Ethics set forth by the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas System. The position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use institutional software systems. Compliance with all State and University policies is mandatory. A valid Texas driver's license and annual passage of the NCAA Coach's Certification Exam are required.
Team Management / Student-Athlete Development
- Actively mentor student-athletes to develop successful life patterns and choices, while supporting and monitoring their academic progress to achieve high GPAs, graduation rates, and retention rates.
- Oversee, organize, and conduct effective practice sessions, including individualized training.
- Provide leadership, direction, and supervision that foster both academic and personal development within the baseball program.
- Create a positive and productive environment for student-athletes.
- Review NCAA and LSC rules with student-athletes as needed and reinforce the importance of compliance.
- Ensure adherence to NCAA rules on playing and practice seasons, including timely submission of monthly athletically related activity logs.
- Maintain compliance with NCAA Bylaws regarding uniforms, logos, complimentary tickets, and summer camps.
- Ensure student-athletes and assistants uphold the university's ethical conduct and sportsmanship standards.
- Coordinate and ensure participation in student-athlete exit interviews as requested.
Recruiting
- Design and implement an effective recruitment strategy focusing on NCAA Division II and LSC-eligible student-athletes.
- Monitor permissible contacts and evaluations per NCAA bylaws.
- Provide all necessary information to determine prospective student-athlete eligibility.
- Maintain complete off-campus contact and evaluation request logs and forms.
- Ensure prospective student-athletes are listed on the Institutional Request List and active in the NCAA Eligibility Center.
- Follow established processes for granting, renewing, or non-renewing athletic-related financial aid.
- Work closely with the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance on National Letters of Intent matters.
Budgeting
- Prepare complete and accurate expense reports while following all university and departmental financial procedures.
- Manage and monitor the sports budget in compliance with established guidelines.
Scheduling
- Declare playing and practice seasons for review and approval by the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
- Develop competitive, regionalized schedules that meet NCAA and LSC requirements and enhance postseason opportunities.
Departmental Involvement
- Collaborate with UTD staff, faculty, and administration in areas including facilities, athletics administration, communications, sports medicine, student life, and academics.
- Attend departmental meetings, professional development sessions, and major events such as the Athletic Hall of Honors Banquet and the End-of-Year Athletic Awards Banquet.
- Actively support fundraising efforts for the program, the Comet Club, and other university initiatives.
- Promote the university, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the baseball program as requested.
- Respond promptly to information requests from Athletic Administration, particularly those with deadlines.
- Foster positive collaboration with colleagues, communicate effectively, and complete tasks accurately and on time.
Professional Development
- Maintain active membership in sport-related organizations and demonstrate commitment to local, regional, and national professional involvement as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree; previous coaching experience, preferably at a college level; knowledge and commitment to NCAA Division II rules. Two years coaching experience.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Additional Information
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record at the time of hire.
Remote Work Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid schedule (partly remote/partly in-office), subject to business needs and manager approval. The position requires residency within the DFW area and the ability to be on campus with 24 hours' notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement must be completed within 14 days of approval.
