The Psychology Department in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks to fill two non-tenure system Professor of Instruction positions (open rank), one with expertise in Developmental Psychology, the other with expertise in Social Psychology. Applicants should hold a PhD in Psychology or a closely related field. The search committee will consider outstanding candidates who can teach a wide variety of core and elective courses at the undergraduate and master's levels. Ideal developmental candidates should be able to teach a wide range of courses in development, such as Child Psychopathology, Exceptional Children, Developmental Assessment, and/or Child Development. Ideal social candidates should be able to teach a wide range of courses in social psychology, such as Personality, Psychology of Prejudice, Workplace Psychology, and/or Cultural Psychology. Ideal candidates for both positions would also be able to teach more general core courses in the Psychology undergraduate program, including Introduction to Psychology and courses in the undergraduate research methods sequence (Statistics for Psychology; Research Design and Analysis; Experimental Projects).
Professor of Instruction positions are full-time, non-tenure track 9-month appointments, renewed annually. Professors of Instruction are expected to contribute actively to the School's teaching and program development missions. In addition to teaching courses, Professors of Instruction in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences serve on departmental and school committees, participate in student development activities, and perform administrative duties as appropriate based on program or School demands. Professors of Instruction are also actively engaged in and visible in School and program events and activities. Teaching loads and other duties of Professors of Instruction are assigned based on needs determined by the Department Head, in consultation with the Associate Deans, but typically involve teaching four classes in the fall and spring semesters, with opportunities for teaching during the summer semester for additional compensation. Selected candidates will be asked to present a professional lecture before an audience (similar to teaching a class) as part of the evaluation.
The appointment commences for the fall 2024 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A PhDor equivalent in Psychology or a related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprising individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence;
- Prepare and teach undergraduate and/or graduate classes;
- Contribute assessment information and data as requested;
- Mentor and/or advise undergraduate and/or graduate students;
- Engage in service within the academic unit, the university, and the profession as appropriate based on teaching and research constraints;
- Teach eight (8) classes each academic year.
