Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing nutrition guidelines, initiatives, and operations for Clinical Nutrition Promotes nutritional education for diabetic patients through ongoing provider education, contributing to development of programs, evaluation of outcomes, and direct interaction with diabetic patients, families, and groups. Collaborates with individuals in both the inpatient and outpatient areas to coordinate care of patients across the health care continuum.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Registered Dietician (RD) or Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) 

2. Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: 

WV: Licensed Dietitian through the West Virginia Board of Licensed Dietitians 

3. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist through the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education or obtain within one (1) year of hire. 

EXPERIENCE:

1. Five (5) years of management experience in healthcare food service or clinical nutrition management.

1. Master's Degree in Nutrition.

1. Responsible for the coordination, organization and delegation of operational aspects of the department to ensure effective, efficient delivery of nutrition services to both patients and visitors.

2. Ensures staff provides quality, effective services consistent with relevant policies, procedures and access and service standards. Monitors and evaluates quality of services.

3. Demonstrates an awareness of departmental budget for personnel, materials and services through efficient use of the same.

4. Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other health care providers to ensure comprehensive, coordinated nutritional therapy to promote improved diabetic management and education.

5. Participates in the development of both the inpatient and outpatient Diabetes program performing consults and rounds on diabetic patients.

6. Functions as a resource person in the area of nutritional management in diabetics for all staff.

7. Communicates with other health care professionals, families, and referral agencies regarding nutritional plan of particular patients or patient groups to ensure continuity of care from admission through discharge and back into the community.

8. Assists in monitoring patient outcomes and adherence of patients to program recommendations.

9. Identifies providers' needs regarding nutritional management of diabetics and participates in inservice programs, workshops, and seminars.

10. Provides consultation to the interdisciplinary team regarding nutritional management of the diabetic patient population.

11. Serves on committees related as appropriate.

12. Maintains professional certification

13. Mentors interdisciplinary health care team members in regard to nutritional management of patients.

14. Maintains program standards, policies, and procedures in collaboration with interdisciplinary team

15. Participates in development of action plans based on data analysis and interpretation

16. Participates in Performance Improvement projects as appropriate.

3 Must be able to read professional literature, to read and write in the medical record.

4. Must be able to travel to assigned units and visit patients.

** This is a regional position with responsibilities covering Wheeling Hospital, Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Weirton Medical Center, Harrison Community Hospital, Barnesville Hospital, and Wetzel County Hospital along with any associated locations.
