Shelby County Surgical Associates is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and team-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our growing surgical practice. This position provides direct patient care and clinical support to surgeons and providers in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

We welcome candidates from a variety of healthcare backgrounds, including medical offices, hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, or newly graduated LPNs who are eager to learn. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided by our experienced nursing staff to ensure success in the role.

The ideal candidate is adaptable, organized, and committed to providing exceptional patient care while assisting with a wide variety of surgical and clinical procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Licensed Practical Nurse is expected to perform or assist with the following clinical responsibilities:

Patient Care
  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and medication reconciliation.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and office surgeries.
  • Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, medications, wound care, and post-operative instructions.
  • Coordinate care with providers and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Document patient care accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Respond to patient phone calls, questions, and medication refill requests according to provider protocols.
Clinical Procedures

The LPN must be willing to learn and perform the following procedures under the direction of the provider:

  • Nursing visits
  • Suture removal
  • Staple removal
  • Aspiration procedures
  • Wound VAC removal
  • Mammography site procedures
  • Assisting with office surgical procedures
  • Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) breast procedures
  • Incision and Drainage (I&D) procedures
  • Unna boot applications
  • Jackson-Pratt (JP) drain removal
  • Penrose drain removal
  • Foley catheter removal
  • Pigtail JP drain removal
  • Percutaneous cholecystostomy tube removal
  • Hemovac drain removal
Additional Responsibilities
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments following infection prevention guidelines.
  • Maintain adequate clinical supplies and assist with inventory management.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection prevention standards.
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and clinic operations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program.
Licensure
  • Current Ohio Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license required.
  • Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe).
Experience

Experience in any of the following settings is welcomed:

  • Physician office
  • Hospital
  • Surgical practice
  • Long-term care or skilled nursing facility
  • Rehabilitation facility
  • Outpatient clinic
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Visual acuity to accurately assess patients and document care.
