Job Description:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience required. Master's degree in related field of study a plus.

Work Experiences:

  • At least five years related product safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, or legal experience required.
  • Manufacturing or retail compliance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Abi, RMS, Oracle, ClearTrack, Bazaarvoice, or PIM software programs preferred.
  • Proven ability to work with external vendors and third parties on product compliance and safety issues.
  • Must be knowledgeable in how to navigate regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local level, including CFR: Title 16, CPSIA, Prop 65, and ASTM, ISO, or other relevant industry standards.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with individuals at various levels.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, pay attention to detail, and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast paced, frequently changing environment.
  • Strong ability to assimilate data and information and make sound, fact-based decisions.
  • Ability to assume complete ownership of programs and projects and be able to do the research and analysis necessary for successful completion.
  • Ability to apply analytical skills to current processes and make recommendations for improvements and problem resolutions.

  • Proficiency in Flex PLM and Microsoft Office program experience, Specifically Excel, Word, Outlook.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and maintains compliance for Academy products with all applicable statutes and regulations for product safety.
  • Conducts research and risk assessments on new development and provides guidance to internal stakeholders on necessary product compliance and labeling requirements as well as design best practices for both product and packaging.
  • Identifies and evaluates safety, regulatory, or quality concerns with existing product and provides recommendations to internal business partners for resolution.
  • Maintains database of relevant product incident information; analyzes post-performance/market surveillance data to determine trends in safety and quality issues.
  • Leads stakeholders, including merchant team, stores, and distribution centers through product compliance investigations, actions, recalls, and other related matters.
  • Monitors regulatory compliance developments/trends and assesses impact of new and amended product safety requirements applicable to Academy products.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on instruction manuals for Private Label products which includes copy, warnings, cautions, and instructions.
  • Reviews and serves as approver of product packaging to ensure necessary warnings are present and all product claims have been substantiated.
  • Partners with e-commerce team to ensure necessary warnings are present on the Academy website and all product claims have been substantiated; periodically audits product pages.
  • Proactively review new e-commerce products and enable proper state restrictions and legal disclaimers; periodically audits product pages.
  • Monitors severe weather or critical event activity within Academy's footprint and oversees price increase suspensions for applicable jurisdictions.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities related to product safety compliance; develops and implements program controls and guidance documents.
  • Write internal procedures in support of Academy's Product Safety Compliance Policy
  • Duties may change; Team Member may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
