  • The Physician Assistant (PA) is a credentialed position required to function in and practice in an expanded specialty. The PA has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions and the daily implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. Provides comprehensive healthcare sensitive to the needs of the population, including assessment, diagnosing, prescribing, and referrals where appropriate. Enabling patient choice in provision of care, complementing roles of MD and multidisciplinary team. The PA augments a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients; collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services.

Job Description/responsibilities For Cardiac Surgery PA:

  • Cardiac Surgery PAs are expected to first assist a variety of cardiac surgical procedures in the OR, perform endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting, cover floor and ICU patients and operative consults, perform bedside procedures such as arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes/pigtail placements.
  • This is an adult only service, no congenital component. We are part of a robust group including five operative cardiac surgeons.
  • This role is full-time, 24/7 service coverage with weeknight and weekend call rotation. Flexible/rotating shifts available.
  • Current availabilities exist within the department for primary critical care and floor coverage/non-operative role for our cardiac surgery patients as well as operative roles. PAs, NPs, and NPs with RNFA encouraged to apply. New graduates with relevant prior experiences may be considered.

Applicants should have the following:

  • NYS licensure
  • DEA certification
  • ACLS/BLS
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in cardiac surgery/OR/proficiency with EVH/ERAH preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited PA or NP program
  • Board Certification

  • Compensation is between $104k-$143k per year, based on level of experience.
