About the Role

Alcoa is seeking an Environmental Advisor - Biodiversity to join its WA Mining Compliance and Systems team. Reporting to the Environmental Compliance and Systems Superintendent, this role offers a family-friendly Monday to Friday work schedule, allowing you to be home each night. The position provides the flexibility of working from home periodically, and you will also have the opportunity to work across all our site locations as required.

Alcoa's Western Australian mining operations are located within the Northern Jarrah Forest, and this role presents a unique opportunity to monitor biodiversity throughout the mine lifecycle. The Environmental Advisor - Biodiversity will be a key player in delivering these monitoring and management objectives by engaging and managing consultants, supporting change management processes, and providing guidance to site teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of core activities, including:

  • Supporting the implementation of biodiversity monitoring protocols and procedures.

  • Working closely with the Environmental Specialist – Biodiversity to provide guidance on the risks of biodiversity and fauna management.

  • Reviewing and managing monitoring data and supporting communication of results to stakeholders.

  • Supervising and coordinating contractors involved in biodiversity monitoring.

  • Supporting WA mining operations to maintain compliance with commitments.

  • Assisting with change management by communicating and ensuring new procedures are followed across sites.

  • Monitoring and analysing data to improve performance.

The role involves working with a variety of internal and external contacts, such as the Pre-Mining Studies Team, Regional Environmental Team, Environmental Research Team, and external contractors and consultants.

What you can bring to the role

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Zoology, Conservation Biology, or a related field; or post-graduate qualifications in Ecology or relevant field experience.

  • Proven experience working on fauna and/ or flora-related work.

  • Experience in project management, budgeting, and contractor management is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring safe working practices.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and self-management skills.

  • Minesite experience is desirable.

  • A current Australian Driver's Licence and the ability to undertake 4x4 driving in bushland is required.
