About the Role:

Independently owning or leading workstreams, tests, or critical equipment as part of a pilot-scale production team focusing on manufacturing and testing advanced proprietary materials for the development of innovative technology.

  • The technician will be responsible for leading and executing operational tasks to meet project requirements including, but not limited to, material batching and mixing, powder processing (milling and spray drying), forming (die presses), furnace loading/unloading and quality control while maintaining process equipment.

  • Technician needs to have a diverse set of skills including strong mechanical aptitude to work independently as well as leading a team for equipment operation, repair and trouble shooting.

  • The technician will be responsible for leading and executing operational tasks to meet project requirements including, but not limited to, material batching and mixing, powder processing (milling and spray drying), forming (die presses), furnace and kiln loading/unloading while maintaining process equipment.

  • Technician will be required to operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment

  • Creating work instructions and testing procedures that meet objectives of experiment and comply with all Alcoa safety requirements.

  • Independent operation and troubleshooting of workstreams, tests, or critical equipment

  • Coaching and developing others in both execution of the shop floor tasks and workstreams, tests, or critical equipment

  • Summarizing results into test reports, presenting to managers, scientists, and engineers on team.

  • Must be able to lead a crew delegating shift responsibilities and provide detailed instruction for operational upsets. 

What you can bring to this role:

  • Proficient computer skills: MS Outlook (email), MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, JMP (data entry), MS Access or other database (data entry).

  • Hand tool usage (drills, saws, etc.)

  • Experience with data monitoring software (OSISoft PI, etc.)

  • Experience with Oracle or similar software preferred or encouraged

  • Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work in a team oriented and learning environment.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate strong safety focus according to Alcoa EHS standards, protocols and tools to

  • Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating day and evening shift schedule.

  • Some products and technical information are subject to U.S. export control laws.  Applicants for this position will be required to submit information regarding work authorization status to enable ATC to comply with those laws.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience demonstrating strong proficiency as a Tech I and 2-3 years of relevant work experience OR 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing/process environment in lieu of experience as a Tech I at Alcoa

  • Experience with spray drying preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in science or an Engineering related discipline preferred

  • Vocational training (Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Welding, Auto-mechanics) preferred
