About the Role:

Can you drive health and safety performance across a complex portfolio of assets? We are seeking someone as committed to health and safety as we are!

As part of the Australian leadership team, the Regional Health and Safety Director is critical to driving strategies across our local WA refineries, mine sites as well as our smelter in Victoria on the elimination fatalities and serious injuries through partnering with our locations and leadership teams. These are diverse assets with their own unique challenges.

As a subject matter expert, you and your team will provide all locations with a clear path to escalate issues, request and receive assistance, and get hands-on, day to day support, guidance, and help improving H&S performance. You will also assist with the coordination, execution, and delivery of various H&S programs at all operating locations.

In this role you will:

  • Lead a regional team of H&S resources to deliver objectives and drive continuous improvement.

  • Influence and support the Regional Vice President and Lead Team to ensure key H&S risks are understood and managed, incidents and their learnings are appropriately addressed, and regional compliance requirements are implemented.

  • Identify and act on key focus areas for H&S performance improvement, such as high-risk processes and locations.

  • Lead the implementation of global and regional H&S initiatives across the region.

  • Share good practices, learning, and solutions from other sites, including from locations in other regions.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of Global Health and Safety initiatives and strategies.

  • Play a key governance role and notify and escalate issues and opportunities for improvement to the appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.

  • Keep up to date on regulatory developments, threats, changes, and challenges within the region.

  • Coordinate the implementation of legal requirements across the operations.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety Management or Equivalent

  • A track record of working within a Health and Safety leadership roles.

  • Experienced in working across multiple locations within the mining/metals industry or heavy industry.

  • Knowledgeable about fatality prevention programs, regulatory requirements, and the key prevention activities necessary to keep workers safe in a high-risk industrial setting.

  • Proven ability to influence and communicate at all levels of an organisation.

  • A collaborative leadership style where you have a passion creating a high-performance culture.
