About the Role
Are you a Resource Geologist who is ready for a change? There are many benefits to joining us to work across Alcoa's WA Mining Operations! With our continued improvement-focused journey, there are lots of changes taking place in the way we do mining; it's an exciting time to join our Medium Term Mine Planning group. This is a rare opportunity to work close to site and utilise your technical skills in a practical way while still being able to enjoy the flexibility of living close to the city and returning home daily.
In this role, you will be developing, maintaining and updating the mine's grade control block models and 3D modelling databases. The principal emphasis, and challenge posed, is to transform ore resources into ore reserves and to prepare reserve grade control models as primary inputs to the optimisation and design processes which provides the basis for the 36 month mine plan.
This role reports to the Geology Superintendent and will be offered on a family friendly Monday to Friday roster, 8 hours per day, the role will be mostly based on site (Huntly Mine Site) with work in the WA Mining Hub, (onsite at our Pinjarra refinery) as well as options to work from home, or work remotely 1- 2 days per week.
Key responsibilities include:
Producing near-mine and grade control drill plans to support the development of ore resources and reserves enabling medium term mining plans to be formulated and bauxite production objectives to be achieved
Producing and maintaining 3D geological block models allowing ore bodies to be defined in compliance with industry best practice standards which provides the basis for the 36 month mine plan.
Assisting in the determination and optimization for the extraction of mineral reserves and providing engineering support as it relates to the estimation of mineral resources, reserves and optimizing extraction of mineral resources.
Working closely with all stakeholders including the Short-Term Planning and Long-Term Planning Technical teams, such as site-based technical teams, members of the exploration team and wider Global Planning Group to ensure appropriate communication and collaboration links are maintained.

What you can bring to the role
Degree qualification in Geology
Previous experience having direct involvement with mineral exploration and mine geology/grade control. It will be advantageous if you have a working knowledge of pit optimisation and design as well as experience in block modelling and resource estimation practices
Pride and ownership in your work. A reputation among peers for technical excellence, and strong leadership and communication skills are essential
High level of computer literacy. Experience with a geological / mining software package, preferably MineSight™ as well as exposure to database management, QA/QC and geological modelling

About the Location
Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery. Bauxite ore from Alcoa's Huntly and Willowdale mines helps to produce almost half of Australia's alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia's aluminium.
