About the Role

As a senior media and communications professional, you will play a key role in shaping Alcoa's public narrative by developing high-impact stories that showcase the company's innovation, sustainability leadership, and community contributions. This 12-month fixed-term position offers the opportunity to apply both strategic insight and hands-on expertise to support communications across Alcoa's Australian operations.

Based in our Perth CBD office and reporting to the Communications Manager, you will be a vital member of a collaborative regional team, responsible for producing high-quality content across multiple media channels. Working closely with colleagues from across the business you will help communicate major projects, strategic priorities, and key events, ensuring consistent and engaging messaging that aligns with Alcoa's values and business goals.

Your key purpose and focus areas will be:

  • Develop and deliver media relations activities, including media strategies, media releases and maintain strong relationships with relevant media contacts.

  • Support proactive and reactive communications around key business activities and priorities that are important to Alcoa's operations and stakeholders.

  • Create high-quality content across websites, newsletters, speeches, presentations, and briefing documents.

  • Monitor media coverage and emerging issues, providing strategic advice to protect and enhance Alcoa's reputation.

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in journalism, public relations, communications.

  • Extensive corporate affairs skills and experience, particularly in external communications and media relations.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills that allow you to successfully simplify complex and technical matters for a range of audiences that deliver impact and enhance understanding.

  • Strong planning and project management capabilities, paired with a proactive and improvement-focused mindset.

  • Ability to quickly shift focus between tasks and adapt to changing priorities on a regular basis

  • Knowledge of the resources sector and Alcoa's geographical and socio-political setting in WA is desirable.

  • Ability to fit into a busy team, take direction from others and to work autonomously as required

  • Flexibility to travel to Alcoa's South-West operations to support communications activities as required.

  • Current WA Drivers Licence.
