THE ROLE:

AMD's Cores Organization delivers industry leading CPUs, and the Floating-Point unit is key to AMD's server, client, and gaming business. We are looking for an experienced RTL engineer to join this innovative team. This is a highly visible role that has a positive impact on many AMD teams and products. In this role, the candidate will innovate new features for performance, power, and area improvements. The candidate will work with physical design, verification, performance, and software teams. The candidate will be a key contributor and leader for AMD's next generation CPU Floating-Point Unit. The candidate will join the team based in Fort Collins, CO.

 

THE PERSON:

The candidate has experience as an RTL designer and delivering technical guidance and strategy to achieve goals and schedules. As a designer, you enjoy engaging with many different teams covering a breadth of technical areas. You are an exceptional micro-architect, with knowledge of datapaths, bypassing networks, register files, renaming, and scheduling. You are familiar with Floating-Point operations and algorithms. You have strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and enjoy using those skills to accomplish goals that many might not think possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technical Guidance and Strategy within an RTL team, and across other core teams
  • Identify bottlenecks and propose new features to improve Floating-Point performance.
  • Work with performance modeling team to model and study new features.
  • Identify power and area optimizations, supporting multiple design variants
  • Implement new features in RTL, working with physical design and verification teams to meet program goals and milestones.
  • Mentor junior members of the Floating-Point RTL team.
  • Work with compiler and library teams to co-optimize Floating-Point software and hardware 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience as a senior RTL Design Engineer who has had provided significant technical influence working with physical design, verification, and performance modeling teams.
  • Understanding of Floating-Point operations and algorithms.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Verilog HDL.
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of modern computer architecture. 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS/MS in EE, CS, CSE (or similar) preferred
