THE ROLE:

AMD's embedded business unit is looking for a technical solutions engineering individual contributor role to develop reference designs showcasing AMD technologies. This person will work closely with core engineering to build differentiated solutions and make sure that the AMD technologies are showcased enabling best performance and all the relevant usage scenarios for the customer product.

 

The embedded business is a growing business, and this role will be highly visible technical execution role with a direct opportunity to impact the customer success and there-of success of embedded business.

 

 

THE PERSON:

As a high-performance Engineer, you need to tap your solutions mindset and leverage your development experience to build compelling solutions as part of the Systems and Solutions Engineering organization, a customer-facing engineering team. As a Solutions Lead, you will be developing solutions, working closely with core engineering, enabling customers and partners to realize the full potential of AMDs technologies and working closely with internal and external stakeholders in enhancing and defining existing and new solutions. You will interact with key engineering and management stakeholders as well as AMD's business team to report progress, align on critical topics and drive action items to closure.

 

  • This position reports into Director of Customer Systems Engineering and is based out of Austin TX or Santa Clara CA (Qualified candidates from other locations will be considered).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with Senior Architects, Core Engineering, Marketing and Product Management to define and develop a differentiated and next-generation compelling solution that can be showcased to Tier-1 and premium customers.
  • Help Architects do gap-analysis, paper calculations, benchmarking, rapid prototypes to drive and define a reference solution design.
  • Work with team members and cross functional groups to design and implement the reference solution, working closely across organizations towards cohesive design integration. Implement and Debug modules as part of larger design with core engineering teams.
  • Lead technical engagements with external strategic partners to help them be successful in building compelling solutions.
  • Do PoCs, demos or use-case optimizations as needed to win the designs and work with ecosystem partners as needed to provide a complete technical solution to the customer.
  • Mentoring, guiding, and directing the team in right way of approaching the problems for most effective and efficient problem solving especially in navigating ambiguous situations.
  • Be expert and drive right solutioning in the crises handling working with other engineering teams to help debug and resolve issues across the stack and solution. Tackle competing priorities and high-pressure situations and strike right balance between right solution in least time.
  • Keep updated with industry trends and provide inputs / recommendations to the roadmap architects and teams.
  • Author technical paper, applications note, blogs for reference solutions, internally as well as externally for NDA customers or public publications. Participate and present in key market technical events.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering or computer science, or related field
  • Mid to Senior level industry hands-on experience in hardware development engineering including experience with PCB circuit design.
  • Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic/protocol analyzers.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong x86 or ARM SoC experience and good understanding of common communication protocols such as I2C, I3C, PCIe, USB, Ethernet.
  • Familiar with latest memory technologies LPDDR, DDR
  • Familiar with power design and power and signal integrity analysis.
  • Strong experience with Functional Safety and Security design.
  • Strong experience with Displays, Audio, Video encode/decode technologies, Graphics pipeline.
  • System experience from processor to the platform, BIOS, SW/FW, ML, and applications
  • Experience with Linux stack preferable.
  • Familiarity with OS and Virtualization concepts
  • Proven track record enabling customers in their product development.
  • Team player with passion and hunger to do whatever it takes for business success with strong drive and won't-take-no attitude.
  • Independent professional that can establish strong technical credibility and works best under broad and general directions with high sense of urgency to drive for results.
  • Ability to align and build consensus among stakeholders working towards the final goal. Be able to influence and drive direction both internally and with customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are key.
